CONTAINER CASH

Central Goldfields has two locations for receiving the specially marked containers for the Victorian Government’s new, Container Deposit Scheme (CDS).

From 1 November, the scheme provides a refund of 10c per eligible item. Containers do not need to be washed, but they must not be crushed.

Local companies in our Shire, Asteria Services and Waste Recyclers of Victoria Pty Ltd, have been selected to provide the local, over-the-counter deposit services on behalf of the network operator Visy:

Asteria Services:
64-68 Nelson Street, Maryborough: Monday to Saturday from 8.30am to 4.30pm
Waste Recyclers of Victoria:
12 Madmans Lane Flagstaff: Wednesday to Saturday from 8.30am to 4.30pm

NOMINATIONS OPEN

Do you know a young person aged 10 to 25 years of age who has made a positive contribution to our Central Goldfields community?

Young people helping out at weekend sport, achieving at school or work, volunteering, or any other community contribution that would otherwise go unrecognised, could be eligible for an award.

Nominate for this year's YouthFest Awards. You can nominate as many young people as you want to on your phone, computer, or by downloading the form.

SKATE’N’SCOOT

A call out to local young people. Join us for free weekly skate and scooter workshops at the Maryborough Skate and Scooter Park for the next six weeks. The sessions are for all abilities, even those trying out for the first time. You can attend any of the sessions.

The workshops are being delivered in partnership with Healthy Loddon Campaspe and Sports Focus to help encourage local youth to be more active, more often.

 

IMMUNISATIONS

Seniors

The new shingles vaccine is now available for free from Central Goldfields Shire's Immunisation Service for our seniors and other vulnerable groups:

  • people aged 65 years and older
  • First Nations people aged 50 years and older
  • immunocompromised people aged 18 years and older with some medical conditions

Young People

The meningococcal ACWY vaccine is free for all Central Goldfields students in year 10 aged from 14 to 16 years through school-based immunisation programs.
However, young people who have not received the vaccine can use Council’s Immunisation Service to catch up.
The vaccine is free for young people up to 19 years of age.

PUBLIC HOLIDAY CLOSURE

Council’s Customer Service Centre, VicRoads, Maryborough Regional Library, Goldfields Family Centre and Depot/Pound will be closed on Tuesday, 7 November for the Melbourne Cup Day public holiday.

The Central Goldfields Visitor Information Centre will remain open from 9am to 5pm. Waste services will also function normally.

A reminder that our free green waste disposal period starts this weekend, from 4 November to Tuesday, 14 November. Green waste can be left at Carisbrook, Dunolly and Talbot transfer stations. We encourage residents to take advantage of the free period to prepare their properties for the upcoming fire season.

The Central Goldfields Shire after-hours service will operate as normal.

ART OPENING

Central Goldfields Art Gallery is celebrating its latest exhibition Echo in the Hollow, featuring the work of Tiffany Titshall.

Mayor Cr Grace La Vella will open the exhibition this Sunday, 5 November at 2pm. Our community and visitors to the region are welcome to attend.

Tiffany’s work is inspired by biyal – the Dja Dja Wurrung term for “Red River Gums” found around her home near Majorca. Her exhibition is open until February 2024.

Entry is free and light refreshments will be provided.
