Your GP can develop a mental health plan with you

  • Develop strategies to improve and maintain your mental health
  • Referral to mental health experts, like a psychologist

3. Local Counsellors/Psychologists

  • Private providers: Search online or ask your GP for a recommendation.
  • Rural Health Connect: may be able to connect you with bulk billed online counsellors.   

4. Support Line/Counselling 24/7

  • Centre for Non-violence1800 884 292 - for women and children seeking support because of family violence, and men who would like to participate in Men’s Behaviour Change programs.

    24 Hour Crisis Response

  • Men's Referral Service1300 766 491 - for men at risk of using family violence, and their family/friends. 8am to 9pm Monday to Friday; 9am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday

  • Conversation Matters: - for ideas and resources about safe and effective discussions about suicide
  • RUOK: - for ideas on how to initiate conversations about mental health
  • Stand By :Support After Suicide - For counselling and resources for people and communities affected by suicide


6. Identifying and supporting someone with mental illness

  • Mental Health First Aid Training: for in depth training in how to recognise and support people suffering from mental illness
  • Peer Support Line: BEING Supported: 1800 151 151 - 7 days, 10am–4pm and 6–10pm: for supportive conversations with counsellors who have lived experience of mental illness.
