Heritage Planning

Central Goldfields Shire has a rich heritage that primarily relates to its 19th century gold mining history and development.

The Shire’s heritage includes a wide variety of places, including buildings and groups of buildings (precincts), landscapes, trees, gardens, parklands, sites, as well as spiritual and religious places.

The Shire also contains 19th and 2oth century archaeological sites and Aboriginal cultural heritage places.

Council is responsible for planning and protection of locally significant heritage places.

Check if your property is within the Heritage Overlay

You can check if your property is within the Heritage Overlay.

What does it mean if your property is within the Heritage Overlay?

If your property is with the Heritage Overlay, you will need to check with Council whether any proposed works to the property will require a Planning Permit prior to works being carried out.

Heritage Studies

The Planning and Environmental Act 1987 requires Council to protect locally significant heritage places in accordance with State Government legislation, guidelines and processes.
