Pet registrations:
All dogs and cats must be registered to their local council by the time they are three months old under state legislation.
Registering your cat or dog(PDF, 248KB) greatly improves their chances of being returned to you if they become lost.
Registration fees provide a whole range of other important services too - as a minimum you will get:
- A Council identification marker for your pet to wear
- Lost and found service - a guarantee that if your pet is found wearing the registration tag you will be notified.
- Council services to respond to calls about wandering dogs or dog attacks. This includes the removal of aggressive dogs from the streets.
- Council services to deal with nuisance problems such as barking dogs.
- Council control of ‘dangerous’, ‘menacing’ and ‘restricted breed’ dogs in your area.
- Council monitoring of pet shops, boarding kennels, catteries, pounds, shelters and breeding and training businesses.
Microchipping your pets
Council has a better chance of finding your lost cats and dogs if they are registered and microchipped.
New applications to register a dog or cat will not be accepted unless the dog / cat has been implanted with a microchip (of which proof must be provided).
This includes dogs and cats moving into the municipality from another council.
Desexing your pets
Cats
To be eligible for a reduced fee rate for cat registration your cat must be desexed and micochipped.
Proof of desexing and microchipping is required at the time of registering your cat to receive the reduced fee.
Dogs
To be eligible for a reduced fee rate for dog registration, your dog must be desexed and microchipped.
Central Goldfields Shire Council will register an undesexed dog that is microchipped, however the full maximum fee will apply.
Proof of desexing and microchipping is required at the time of registering your dog to receive the reduced fee.
