Parks, Playspaces, Cycling Tracks

The Central Goldfields Shire has plenty of picturesque parks, playspaces and cycling tracks on offer.

Parks

Located in the heart of Maryborough, the Princes Park precinct features parkland, ovals, playing fields, the Maryborough Municipal Outdoor Swimming Pool and picturesque Lake Victoria.

It also offers walking tracks, magnificent parklands, playgrounds, a Liberty Swing and opportunities for canoeing/kayaking.

BBQ and toilet facilities are also available.

 

Playspaces

The Central Goldfields Shire features numerous playspaces for the community to enjoy:

Station Domain Playspace    

    Corner Burns & Station streets, Maryborough    

Located in the picturesque Station Domain precinct and in close proximity to the Maryborough Railway Station, this playground is an attraction for young families. The precinct features picnic tables, drinking fountains and toilet facilities.

Princes Park Playspace

     Corner Burns Street & Lake Road, Maryborough

Located in the Princes Park Precinct alongside Lake Victoria and its wonderful walking track, this playspace caters for the young and the young at heart.  With two BBQ shelters, toilet facilities and ample open space to get active. There is also a Liberty Swing – the only one of its kind in the Central Goldfields Shire.

 

Skate Park

Maryborough Skate Park

 The new Skate and Scooter Park was opened for community use on Thursday 1 December, 2022.

The Skate and Scooter Park is located at the Adventure Playground at Princes Park, Maryborough.

Signage and some minor landscaping are still to be carried out on site. An official opening is planned for early 2023.

The project was jointly funded by the Victorian Government through the Sports Recreation Victoria – Local Sports Infrastructure Fund - $250,000, Community Bank Avoca, Maryborough and St Arnaud (in partnership with the Maryborough Lions Club) - $40,000 and Council - $395,000. 

The Skate and Scooter Park has been designed to respect the heritage of the site and to accommodate a range of wheeled sports including skateboarding, scooter riding, roller blading and BMX riding.

The design incorporates spectator seating and viewing areas plus shade structures.

For those who intend on making use of the new facility, we ask you observe the following:

The Skate and Scooter Park has been provided for the enjoyment of skaters, scooter riders, inline and roller skaters and BMX riders.

 Please respect the safety and convenience of others sharing this place.

Please keep dogs clear of the skatepark.

Smoking is not permitted in the skatepark.

Alcohol and glass are not permitted in the skatepark.

The Skate and Scooter Park is unsupervised, so please act responsibly and observe the following to ensure the enjoyment of all and avoid the risk of injury:

  • Helmets and protective gear are highly recommended
  • Some of the park may be unsuitable for beginners, so choose what areas you use based on your ability
  • Be aware of where others are, and make sure you give them plenty of room while using the facility
  • Surfaces may be slippery, so skate, scoot and ride with care
  • Do not drink or eat on the skatepark surface
  • Do not graffiti, it’s not cool.  Any graffiti or products used to clean graffiti will damage the surface.

Cycling Tracks

Beginners and serious rides alike can explore the many cycling tracks available in the Central Goldfields Shire Council.

Cycle Central Goldfields Trails(PDF, 18MB) and the Dunolly Cycle Tracks(PDF, 2MB) offer a series of signed forest roads and tracks varying in length between 11 to 80 kilometres.

The 115km Ballarat-Maryborough Heritage Trail(PDF, 5MB) takes in the townships of Creswick, Clunes and Talbot and travels through scenic and relatively flat country. 

Other leisurely rides in the Central Goldfields Shire include the Carisbrook Settlers' Trail(PDF, 2MB) and the Majorca Kong Meng Trail(PDF, 2MB).
