The meeting will be held to consider the Central Goldfields Shire Annual Report 2022-2023.

Maryborough-Town-Hall-2_cc.crop.jpg

A $539,639 contract for the electrical and AV upgrade works at the Maryborough Town Hall was awarded to EPM&C Pty Ltd at the October Council Meeting earlier this week.

Once complete the Town Hall can re-open to community use.

The project is being funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

NEW ROAD

fb.frost.signs.jpg

Works to reconstruct Maryborough's Frost Avenue next to the Ron Sinclair Reserve have commenced.

The project includes the replacement of the road surface, existing footpath, new kerb and drainage. The $400,000 upgrade is made possible thanks to the Federal Government’s Roads to Recovery program.

The project will be delivered by our Operations team and contractors over the next three months.

Where possible, roads will stay open during construction, however, some road closures will be experienced during the works.

For the safety of workers, road users and pedestrians please obey all traffic signage and the direction of any traffic controllers.

SKILLED FORCE

Work is continuing behind the scenes to determine how we can establish a Learning Hub in the Central Goldfields. This week representatives from Council, Latrobe University, Country Universities Centre and local businesses joined together to discuss next steps.

A Learning Hub would support local people in identifying post-secondary education and training options. It would also help create closer relationships between education and business to shape a skilled future workforce for our Shire.

The vision for the Learning Hub also features:

  • study spaces
  • computing facilities
  • high-speed internet
  • administration and academic skills support services like developing writing and research skills
  • student services including study and pastoral support
  • advice to access tertiary education student services

The group is now considering an application for funding to establish a Learning Hub through the Federal Government’s Regional University Study Hubs program.

SERIOUS DAMAGE

Unfortunately, public toilets in Maryborough and Carisbrook have sustained repeated and destructive vandal attacks over several weeks. Without functioning toilets near major play areas, many parents and carers are prevented from spending extended periods of time at recreational facilities with young children.

Besides the enormous cost to ratepayers for their repair, damaged amenities can be unsafe for use and should be urgently reported to Council – even outside hours. The sooner we are advised of damage, the quicker we can make the areas safe and commence repairs.

To report, contact Council’s Customer Service Team on 5461 0610 from 8:30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday
After hours: 0419 005 577

If you see anyone damaging amenities in the Shire, please contact Victoria Police on 000 immediately.
