HAVE YOUR SAY

Local Law Review

The Local Law covers a range of diverse topics from unsightly land, fire safety, animals, roadside, reserves and footpath trading to planting on nature strips and building sites.

It empowers Council to respond to local issues and protect public and private space as well as the community’s health and safety.

You are invited to help shape our local laws and you can find out more and get involved via the following ways:

Events Strategy

dunolly.event.market.crowd.jpg

We know community events are important to our whole Shire. To help us understand how we can better support our existing events, and explore ways to attract new events, we are inviting residents, visitors, venue operators and event organisers to complete a short survey.

The survey is open until Wednesday, 13 December and can be completed via the project webpage: www.engage.cgoldshire.vic.gov.au/events

Maryborough Heritage Review

Council plays an important role in protecting the magnificent heritage that has been left to our community by past generations. We try to strike a balance between using the Central Goldfields Planning Scheme to protect places of heritage significance, without unduly restricting what people can do with their property.

During 2023, a review of the Heritage Overlay that covers a large portion of Maryborough has been conducted. The review found that the overlay, known as HO206, covers too large an area and includes many places that are not of heritage significance. It is proposed that HO206 be replaced with a number of smaller heritage precincts and places, with clear descriptions of what should be protected and guidelines on how to do this. In some areas it is proposed that the Heritage Overlay be removed altogether.

Affected property owners and others interested in Maryborough’s heritage are invited to consider the study report and proposed changes to the overlay. Feedback is welcome until 13 December.
