NEW EXHIBITION

LOVE-GRAPHIC-HEART-03.png

Central Goldfields Art Gallery is launching LOVE – a major exhibition exploring the theme of love through the visual arts this Sunday, 17 December at 2pm.

Drawn from collections around the region, a broad array of works including painting, sculpture and photography portray love of nature, people and animals, as well as self-love and the challenges of love.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to wear ‘a splash of red’ and to take a selfie in a specially designed love heart frame. Entry is free and the exhibition is open from Saturday, 16 December until 14 April 2024.

GREENER WASTE

Our optional green waste collection service now has over 2,000 participating properties. As a bonus, users of the service can claim one free bag per month of quality compost, when sufficient material is available.

Unfortunately a number of bins are contaminated with materials not suitable for composting such as plastics, etc. This significantly delays the process while material is sorted and cleaned before mulching and bagging.

We ask that our community of green waste collectors do their bit to keep bins free of plastic, rope, hoses and garden equipment etc., to reduce contamination.

SHOP THE SHIRE

Finding a unique Christmas gift is easy in the Central Goldfields, thanks to the dozens of specialist gift stores spread across the Shire.

Our small towns offer specialised selections of everything from pop-out cards and handmade dolls to rare antique items like glassware and heritage furniture, plus crafts and products made locally.

The community is encouraged to venture out and explore what Dunolly and Talbot have to offer. A reminder that this weekend is the final Talbot Farmer’s Market for the year, from 9am to 1pm Sunday, 17 December.

TINY TOWNS GRANTS

The Victorian Government’s Tiny Towns Fund supports projects in communities with a population up to 5,000 people.

The fund backs projects to strengthen community connections and encourage more visitors to Central Goldfields.

Grants of between $5000 and $50,000 for projects such as hiking trails, splash parks, playgrounds, community hall and library upgrades, public art and many more initiatives will be considered.

The fund is open to applications from incorporated not-for-profit community organisations as well as Council. A co-contribution is required to qualify.

Applications close 5pm, Sunday 25 February 2024. For further information visit:

THANK YOU!

Daisy Hill

Daisy Hill residents are now one step closer to finalising a Daisy Hill Community Plan for the community. Feedback on the draft community plan is now closed and well done to all the people who took the time to provide feedback on the draft plan.

A final plan will be available early in the new year, and Paddys Ranges Ward Councillor Chris Meddows Taylor will continue to work closely with the Daisy Hill Community Centre Committee and residents to implement important improvements for the community.

You can still view a copy of the draft plan at online at www.engage.cgoldshire.vic.gov.au/daisyhillplan or contact your ward Councillor for further information.

Heritage Review

During 2023, a review of the blanket Heritage Overlay covering much of Maryborough recommended a series of more defined precincts.

Affected property owners and others interested in Maryborough’s heritage attended public information sessions and were invited to have their say on the proposed changes to the Maryborough overlay. Feedback closed on Wednesday, 13 December.

Your feedback will help shape final updates to the proposed Heritage Overlay and will then be compiled and presented to Council for adoption in the new year.

For further information about heritage or any other planning enquiries, we are always available to assist:

  • Visit our Customer Service Centre or phone us on 03 5461 0610 during business hours
  • Email our team on mail@cgoldshire.vic.gov.au

Events Strategy

We know community events are important to our whole Shire. We would like to thank the residents, visitors, venue operators and event organisers who gave us valuable feedback.

The online survey closed on Wednesday, 13 December.

Our Events Team will now combine your responses with further market research to prepare a draft Events Strategy. This is expected to be complete by May 2024 when community members will have an opportunity to comment on the document.

For further information:

  • Visit our Customer Service Centre or phone us on 03 5461 0610 during business hours
  • Email our team on mail@cgoldshire.vic.gov.au

Local Law Review

You are invited to help shape our local laws, covering a range of diverse topics from animals, unsightly land, fire safety, noise, reserves and footpath trading, to planting on nature strips.

Find out more and get involved via the following ways:

Feedback is welcome until 5pm, Friday 22 Decembe

Business and Industry Staff Recruitment

Finding and keeping staff in our businesses and services has been a challenge in recent years.

To keep a measure on progress, we invite our local business owners and managers to contribute to a 15-minute survey about staff retention and recruitment.

This will allow us to compare results from 2022 to the current time and is in partnership with La Trobe University. To complete the survey and for further information:

The survey is open until 31 December 2023.

ROADSIDE SLASHING

Our roadside slashing program is continuing when weather permits. For community safety, slashing is not done on days of extreme fire danger.

When operating, it is standard procedure that all slashing is monitored by a water truck.

Crews have completed significant areas around Majorca, Moolort, Havelock and Bet Bet this week.

We ask drivers around these areas to take care and observe any warning signs or speed limits, for everyone’s safety.
