LEADERSHIP PATHWAYS

Community Resilience Practitioner Training

Resilience Canopy is a national initiative to build strength in our community for generations to come, and there are a limited number of places to attend this important training opportunity.

Applicants are invited to become Community Resilience Practitioners to guide and support community leaders beyond disaster preparation.

By enrolling in this intensive course, you will see beyond the next flood, next bushfire, next pandemic: and feel ready to support your community as it adapts to an uncertain future with confidence.

This deep dive has two online sessions and two face-to-face sessions in Bendigo. If you are passionate about supporting your community to be disaster ready, throw your hat in and apply for the course which runs between 19-27 October 2023.

LEAD Loddon Murray

Community leaders are not always visible, and yet we always feel their presence and contribution, such as in the way we respond to crisis: such as when our hospital needs urgent funds for equipment, when farmers need advocacy to influence policy and when people in our community become isolated and need support.

The LEAD Loddon Murray Community Leadership Program has produced 600 leaders across ten local government areas in the past 25 years, with a number of these graduates right here in Central Goldfields.

The course is 22 days from February to November 2024 and consists of face-to-face, online and group retreat sessions. As a participant, you will gain real life capacity and effectiveness as a leader of the future.

Applications close on October 30. For further information visit: www.leadlm.org.au/lmclp

In the Pipeline

GWM Water is continuing to consult with the community in the northern areas of Central Goldfields Shire regarding the extension of the Wimmera-Mallee pipeline. The non-drinking water is for agricultural and civic use, such as keeping our parks and gardens green over long dry summers and to provide water security for primary production.

To explain more about the timeline, how to apply for connections to properties and what costs may be involved, a series of drop-in sessions have been scheduled:

  • Wednesday 18 October
    • 10am – Bealiba Public Hall
    • 12pm – Natte Yallock Recreation Reserve
    • 2pm – Moonambel Public Hall
  • Thursday 19 October
    • 2pm - Navarre Recreation Reserve

Everyone is welcome and no bookings are required.

Gallery Commendation

This week the Central Goldfields Art Gallery was issued a Highly Commended Award for its redevelopment project in the 2023 Large Project of the Year category.

Presented at the Victorian Museums & Galleries Awards in Melbourne, our gallery was up against a formidable shortlist including Arts Centre Melbourne, City of Melbourne and Museums Victoria, which was the winner with its project Tyama – A deeper sense of knowing.

Well done to all of the staff and volunteers who have worked so hard for this fantastic new facility.
