December Council Meeting outcomes

The December Council Meeting was held this week (21/12) with a number of key items considered.

A summary of outcomes is provided below:

Cr Geoff Lovett MAV Service Award

Cr Geoff Lovett was acknowledged for 20 years of service to Council making him now eligible for the Municipal Association of Victoria 20-year service award. A summary of Cr Lovett’s contribution and service was published in The Maryborough District Advertiser this week (21/12) and is also available to read HERE and on Council's Facebook page.

Princes Park Grandstand Conservation Management Plan

Council adopted the Princes Park Grandstand Conservation Management Plan. The Plan will help guide conservation, restoration, maintenance and management of the facility and will also assist Council to seek funding for restoration works. Thank you to community members who provided feedback during the engagement period.

Domestic Animal Management Plan  

Council adopted the Domestic Animal Management Plan. This Plan provides a blueprint for how Council’s Animal Management service will run for the next four years, with a focus on community education around responsible pet ownership. More than 72 community members provided input into its development - thank you to everyone who contributed.

Waterway Management Plan for Carisbrook

Council adopted the Waterway Management Plan for Carisbrook. The Plan provides Council with a strategic plan for future management of the Tullaroop Creek. Council adopted the Plan with an implementation plan to also be developed. The Implementation Plan will recommend resources and review the time frames for the recommended actions.  The adoption of the Plan follows a community engagement period held between August and October.

Industrial Land Demand and Supply Assessment and Strategy

Council adopted the Industrial Land Demand and Supply Assessment and Strategy. The Strategy guides the future development of industrial land in our Shire. Council also requested that an officer report on options for Council-led development of land it owns in Brick Kiln Road, Flagstaff. During October and November, the draft Strategy was made available for community feedback - thank you to everyone who contributed.

2020-2021 Annual Report

Council’s 2020-2021 Annual Report was noted by Council. The report details Council's performance and financial statements over the 2020-21 financial year and also celebrates the achievements by Council. Bristol Hill Pioneer Memorial Tower

Cr Grace La Vella moved a motion that Council write to the Regional Director Loddon Mallee – Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, requesting that Bristol Hill Tower be re-opened as soon as practicable. The Tower has been closed since June this year. Cr La Vella would like to see the Tower structurally rehabilitated, made safe and re-opened so it can be enjoyed as one of our iconic tourist attractions.

Procurement Policy

Council adopted the Procurement Policy, a requirement under the Local Government Act 2020. The Policy specifies the principles, processes and procedures Council staff must follow for purchase of goods and services and the delivery of projects.

Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Round 3 Funding

Council resolved that Round 3 of the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Grant funding will be allocated to fixing high priority risk areas at Council’s pool facilities (indoor and outdoor) and approximately $140,000 for the Talbot Town Hall toilets project.
