With summer just around the corner, the Dunolly and Talbot outdoor swimming pools will open, with free entry, for the outdoor pool season from Saturday 3 December until Monday 13 March, 2023.

The Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre will extend its opening hours and remain open until 7pm on weekends and public holidays. Weekday opening hours will remain as normal.

Plus, the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre will also offer reduced fees for casual entry during the outdoor pool season. Season passes will remain as normal.

Thanks to the Victorian Government’s FReeZa program, free single-entry pool passes to the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre indoor pool will be provided to youth under the ages of 25. The vouchers are being distributed via our locals schools this week. Vouchers will also be available at Council’s Customer Service Centre.

Unfortunately, as announced in July this year, the heritage-listed Maryborough Outdoor Pool won’t be opening this summer.

To ensure our local community and visitors to our Shire still have access to aquatic facilities during the summer, Council has worked closely with Unified Leisure to implement a range of swimming options for the community:

The Olympic pool is more than 80 years old and for safety and structural reasons the pool cannot be re-opened until it is demolished and rebuilt.

This will be a significant project at considerable cost and we will continue to advocate to State and Federal Governments for funding.

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Grace La Vella encouraged community members to take advantage of free entry at the Talbot and Dunolly outdoor pools and the extended opening hours at the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre this summer.

“Our pools are fantastic assets for the community. They provide a perfect social hub for our children, parents, families and friends.

“We understand that the closure of the Maryborough Outdoor Pool will cause inconvenience and disappointment to our local community. We know the facility is much loved by our local residents and the wider community.

“The reality is that the pool is more than 80 years old and we must ensure the pool is safe for our community to use.

“We’ll continue to advocate tirelessly to State and Federal governments for the $6 million we need to rebuild this heritage listed, recreation and sporting icon so as to ensure it can be enjoyed by future generations.”

Please note the Talbot and Dunolly outdoor pools only open when the weather is 25 plus degrees.
