Sunday 21 June, 9.30am to 2.30pm

“Flooding in Carisbrook: Looking back and looking forward”

Carisbrook has a history of significant floods and will flood again.

■ How can we learn from the lived experience of our community to build preparedness for future events?

■ How do we prepare emotionally for floods as well as look after our mental health and wellbeing in the face of disaster risk?

■ Come and share your insights and ideas for creating a more prepared and resilient Carisbrook.

■ Let’s figure out together what needs to happen and identify some important next steps

Renowned national leaders in disaster preparedness and recovery, Anne Leadbeater and David Younger, will guide Carisbrook residents through a community conversation exploring how to build flood preparedness and resilience.

Anne led the Kinglake community through recovery following the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires and has since worked across Australia and New Zealand supporting communities recovering from flood, drought and fire.

David is a clinical psychologist highly skilled in creating trauma‑informed, safe spaces for community conversations after disasters.

Funded by Emergency Recovery Victoria and co‑hosted by Central Goldfields Shire Council and Connected Carisbrook, the session will include insights into preparing emotionally for floods and looking after mental health and wellbeing in the face of disaster risk.

The conversation will also explore what past floods have taught Carisbrook residents and what this knowledge can offer newcomers.

Who is this for? Carisbrook residents, property and business owners and managers and community organisations and services. Newcomers since 2022 are especially encouraged to attend.

Lunch is included.

WIN A GENERATOR! Register to attend and be in the room on the day and you could win this super silent generator, valued at $1,000! Perfect for home use as a backup power supply, safe for all electronic devices, the job site, or camp site. The prize will be drawn at 2pm, and the winning ticket holder must be present to claim the prize.

Flood Study Community Session 4

The Carisbrook Flood Study Advisory Reference Group will host its fourth community session as part of the development of the Carisbrook Flood Management Plan.

Following Session 3 in February, Watertech will present the modelled impacts of various mitigation measures suggested by the community.

This session provides an opportunity for residents to review and provide feedback on how existing waterways and mitigation measures perform under a climate‑change‑driven rain event.

Presentations will be held at 3.15pm and 5.30pm, followed by questions and community input.

For further information, including a detailed map of actual levee heights compared with the original plans, visit: www.engage.cgoldshire.vic.gov.au/carisbrookfloodplanning

Council is updating the Carisbrook Flood Management Plan, as the current plan—developed in 2013—is now out of date. The new plan will incorporate data from the 2011 and 2022 flood events and will consider climate change impacts, mitigation modelling, flood risk and emergency management.

Central Goldfields Shire Council Mayor Cr Ben Green encouraged all residents, local business owners and Carisbrook‑based services and organisations to attend the events.

“Carisbrook has a history of significant floods and will flood again. How can we learn from the lived experience of our community to build preparedness for future events?

“Feedback from locals suggests people are keen to look ahead, and we are keen for everyone—whether new to the community or long‑established residents—to understand what has happened in past floods, to share the local risks and realities, to learn why it’s so vital to have a personal emergency plan, and to build confidence for acting in future floods.”

“Flood Study Community Session 4 is part of our continued engagement to review the town’s flood management plan which sets out likely flood levels, flood hotspots and mitigations.”
