Support for clubs to tackle Fair Access

It’s a team effort - REGISTER NOW for Respect in Sport workshops

Sports Focus have specifically designed workshops to help sporting clubs understand gender equality, support them to identify areas where they could be more welcoming and inclusive, and develop their own Gender Equality Action Plan.

There are two parts to the Respect in Sport workshops:

Part one- Respect in Sport 101 (90 mins)

Time: 6:30-8pm
Date: Mon 1st Sept & Wed 10th Sept
Venue: The Hub in Maryborough

  • This is an introductory session that explores the background of gender equity in sport and how clubs can create more inclusive environments.
  • It is recommended that 2-3 people per club attend either of the two workshops, including an executive committee member
  • Registrations limited

Part two - Respect in Sport: Stepping Up (120 minutes x 2 workshop)

Workshop details TBC

  • Part 2 is split over two workshops and provides one-on-one support for clubs to take action to promote inclusion in their club. It focuses on leadership, conducting a gender equity community audit, and developing a tailored Gender Equality Action Plan with individual assistance.
  • It is likely that not all barriers raised in the community audit will be specific to women and girls. This audit provides clubs with an opportunity to check in with their members and promote equality as well as broader participation.
  • There is a workshop registration limit of 5 clubs, with a recommended 4-5 people per club.
  • Clubs must have attended Part 1.

Stepping through Fair Access as a club

Clubs in Central Goldfields can still work on Fair Access and gender equality without attending the Respect in Sport workshops. The City of Greater Bendigo has developed five steps, with supporting templates and resources, to help guide clubs and recreational organisations working towards creating their own Gender Equality Action Plan. These steps and supporting templates and resources are summarised below:

Step 1: Club Community Survey

Action
Review and adapt the 8-question survey template as needed, before distributed to club community.
SurveyMonkey or Google Forms are recommended for online distribution.

Who should undertake this?
The Fair Access subcommittee*or the club committee with assistance from members of the club community.
Club community includes: board/committee members, players, coaches, referees, team managers, parents, and spectators.

Try to include diverse perspectives.

This will make the final results more representative of the wider organisation.
