Background information

Safety and operation improvements follow Aerodrome Taskforce report

In July 2021 Council appointed a six-person Taskforce to assist with the development of a Business Case and Master Plan around the future operation of the Aerodrome.

The Report provided an update on the progress of the Taskforce to date, as well as recommendations and options regarding short- and long-term risks and operations in operating the facility.

In 2022 the Aerodrome business case was published and featured plans for the long term management and operation of the aerodrome.

Since the business case was published, Council has carried out some projects to improve the aerodrome infrastructure and its safety with the help of the Regional Airport Program round 3. The projects include:

  • Improving fencing to prevent kangaroo entry
  • Tree management to ensure safe angles of approach to the main runway
  • Replacing the airport water main
  • Power backup via battery or generator

From 2025-2027 Council have also received funding from the Regional Airports Program round 4 to complete the following works:

  • Pilot-activated lighting
  • Aircraft radio alert systems
  • Helipad tower refurbishment
  • Refuelling facilities (check)
  • Runway and taxiway resurfacing
  • Tie-down areas and parking improvements
