website.grab.community.directory.jpg

Not-for-profit organisations are encouraged to list their contact details on our new online Community Directory.

Over the coming months, as more and more contact details are added, the directory will make it easy for residents and visitors to engage with our many groups, clubs, services, associations and facilities in our Shire.

Adding a listing is free and will support your group to announce upcoming events, and become visible on the internet.

Plus, it’s easy to get started using our step-by-step guide.

TREES AND POWER

trees.powerlines_cc.jpeg

Following advice from our electricity provider, we are trimming trees around power lines. This pruning is a Council responsibility required by State Government.

Powercor assesses what is required and the necessary pruning is carried out during the winter when it is best to prune trees, for community safety and to improve the integrity of the power supply for the following year.

Please observe the direction of traffic control around areas where work is taking place, and please appreciate the importance of this work in preparation for summer and other extreme weather events.

AUSTRALIAN LANDSCAPE ART

Join us for a fascinating art talk ‘Geological Inspirations’ by Alex Stoneman at Central Goldfields Art Gallery next Wednesday 23 July at 10.30am.

Accompanied by visual examples of art works, our guest speaker will focus on representations of Australian landscape paintings by John Glover, Eugene Von Guerard, William Tibbits, Arthur Streeton, Russell Drysdale and Fred Williams.

Stoneman will also refer to the critical writing of Bernard Smith, John Berger, Patrick McCaughey and Wally Canuana. The talk raises questions about hidden ideologies in visual images.

Alex Stoneman has a distinguished career with the Victorian Education Department and is a long-term and much respected tutor with Maryborough U3A.

Morning tea is included and the cost is $5. For bookings phone the Gallery on 5461 6600 or email: cgsc.art@cgoldshire.vic.gov.au

LOCAL CAREERS

Peyton already has a career plan because she loves working with children.

The 15-year-old secondary student recently completed a week’s work experience at our Goldfields Children's Centre, finding it easy to settle in because she was caring for one of her own little cousins.

Our local young people have plenty of opportunities to build their future in our Shire, and Early Learning is one of several growth industries.

Plus, our first round of Kinder Registrations for 2026 received 220 applications recently - up from 160 at the same time last year!

A bright future for our local children, and all the local Educators in our Shire who help them off to a great start.

LIGHTS STAY ON

To improve community safety and encourage healthy exercise into the winter months, Healthy Loddon Campaspe is continuing to light up Princes Park, Princes Park netball court and Jubilee Oval every Friday night from 2 May.

The thirteen-week initiative has been a great success, so the lights will stay on between 5pm and 8pm every Friday evening until the end of September.

Healthy Loddon Campaspe is a region-wide plan to improve the health and wellbeing of our community, funded by the Victorian Government. For further information visit:

WHO ARE THEY?

Become part of our social history by telling us who you think are the three famous Australian figures in this painting by Martin Shaw.

The work ‘3 Famous Australians’ is on display at our Visitor Centre in the historic Maryborough Railway Station until the end of July, when it will move to Portland.

The image and the records of people who have guessed the identities are an intriguing insight, because the exhibit has been travelling the country since 1983.

There is also a display of letters from well known Australians who have taken a guess – along with some entertaining reasons for their choices! You can also read the responses of some Maryborough locals who made a guess last time the painting was here in 2015.

Entry is free between 9am and 5pm every day.

LEARN ABOUT TENDERS

We welcome and encourage local businesses and tradespeople to tender for work at Council - but it's not just about sending in a quote! Councils are required to use tendering, and learning more about the process will greatly improve the prospect of securing contract work.

Central Goldfields contractors are invited to attend one of two free workshops being run by City of Greater Bendigo’s Economic Growth, Procurement and Major Projects teams this month.

Learn how to tender successfully, both in Bendigo and in our own local Council area:

  • Session 1: Tuesday 22 July from 6pm to 7pm
  • Session 2: Thursday 24 July from 3pm to 4pm

Sessions will be held at 'Galkangu' - Bendigo's Government Hub, 189-229 Lyttleton Terrace. Register using the QR code or visit:
