BATS HANGING AROUND
We’ve received expert advice that the large numbers of flying foxes in Phillips Gardens are unlikely to remain in the area.
Following an extended period of dry weather deep into autumn, the chatty chaps like our green parks with ample water nearby. As food supplies diminish they are expected to move on.
- They are protected wildlife and should not be interfered with – penalties apply
- They eat nectar, pollen, blossom and fruit, and help regenerate native forests
- They host some diseases which can be transmitted to people and should not be handled
We’re designing signage for the Gardens to help our community appreciate this beautiful native species.

ROADWORK WARNING
The junction of Clarendon Street, Palmerston Street and Dundas Road is currently being upgraded as part of the TAC Safe Roads and Streets Program.
The project includes construction of a splitter island on Dundas Road, banning of the right turn movement out of Palmerston Street and realignment of footpaths and road narrowing.
Our Roads and Works crew requests that drivers avoid using the intersection and follow diversion and speed limit signs. Compliance with temporary signage for roadwork safety is not optional – it’s the law.
