Energy Breakthrough is gearing up for its biggest year yet, with the 2026 event set to roll into Maryborough from 18–22 November.

This year’s program has surged past expectations, with the Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) category attracting its highest number of entries since pre-COVID events.

The HPV field is now almost sold out, signalling unprecedented enthusiasm from schools, students and supporters across Australia.

Registrations across all other categories remain strong, with limited places still available for teams eager to be part of one of regional Victoria’s most iconic education‑and‑innovation events.

Adding to the excitement, five new schools from Victoria and New South Wales will make their Energy Breakthrough debut in 2026, joining returning teams in a celebration of creativity, engineering, teamwork and endurance.

A major event for Maryborough

Energy Breakthrough continues to be the largest event on the Central Goldfields Shire calendar, drawing thousands of visitors, students, teachers and families to Maryborough each year. The 2026 event is expected to once again deliver a significant boost to the local economy, community spirit and regional profile.

Across five action‑packed days, spectators can expect a vibrant festival atmosphere, thrilling races, hands‑on STEM learning, and family‑friendly entertainment.

What to expect in 2026

While the full program will be released closer to the event, Energy Breakthrough 2026 will once again feature:

  • HPV racing across multiple categories
  • Innovations in Technology displays and judging
  • Pushcarts, Try‑athlon and Energy Efficient Vehicles
  • Family entertainment, food vans and community activities
  • Opportunities for volunteers to support the smooth running of the event

The event continues to be delivered in partnership with the Central Goldfields Shire Council, the Country Education Partnership, and a dedicated network of schools, sponsors, community groups and more than 700 volunteers.

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Ben Green said Energy Breakthrough is a cornerstone event for our region, and this year’s record HPV entries show just how much passion and momentum the program continues to build. We’re thrilled to welcome new schools, returning teams and thousands of visitors to Maryborough this November.

Rosebud Secondary College teacher and former Maryborough local Mitch Bench said they were excited to participate in Energy Breakthrough for the first time.

"Rosebud Secondary College is super excited about being a part of this year's Energy Breakthrough. There's been a real buzz around the school, with lots of students and staff keen to get involved. For the students, it represents a chance to be part of something new, to build a legacy here and to enhance their learning opportunities outside of the classroom.

“Personally, I can't wait to show my colleagues and students the wonderful town I grew up in, to introduce them to so many fantastic Maryborough locals and to soak up the friendly yet competitive atmosphere of the EB."

Teams still hoping to participate are encouraged to secure their place soon, with remaining spots expected to fill quickly.
