Daisy Hill and Talbot are the latest communities to benefit from upgrades as part of the Victorian Government’s Tiny Town Fund.

The township upgrades have been welcomed by communities across the Shire and have been made possible thanks to joint funding from the Victorian Government’s Tiny Towns Fund, Council and local community groups.

In June 2024, Council announced it had secured funding for seven projects, with a further two projects announced in May 2025.

Projects have been delivered in Adelaide Lead, Bealiba, Majorca, Bowenvale, Dunolly, Talbot, Carisbrook, Wareek and Daisy Hill.

As part of the second round of projects, new kitchen cabinetry and benchtops have been installed at the Daisy Hill Community Centre.

The $16,000 project was jointly funded with $12,000 from the Victorian Government, $2,000 from Council and a $2,000 contribution from the Daisy Hill Community Centre.

Restumping, structural repairs, floor re‑laying and associated work have also been carried out at the Talbot ANA Hall.

The $100,000 upgrade project has been made possible thanks to $50,000 from the Victorian Government, $25,000 from Council and $25,000 from the Talbot ANA Hall Committee of Management.

Member for Ripon Martha Haylett MP said our local halls are at the heart of country communities.

“They host weddings, wakes, community meetings, and so much more. I am so proud our government is giving them the upgrades they deserve.”

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor and Paddys Ranges Ward Councillor Ben Green said upgrades like those at the Daisy Hill Community Centre and Talbot ANA Hall have a real and lasting impact in rural communities.

“For small rural councils like ours, federal and state funding streams are essential — they’re what allow us to build new facilities and improve the ones our communities rely on.

“We appreciate the support of the Victorian Government and Member for Ripon Martha Haylett, whose investment is helping us deliver these valuable projects.

“My thanks also go to the Council staff who prepared the funding submissions and have overseen the upgrade works in close collaboration with local residents.”
