The final stage of the Carisbrook Levee project is now underway.

Local company Doran Earthmoving, who were awarded the $1,082,870 contract following a public tender process, are delivering the project.

The final stage of project involves the construction of the Western Levee – south of Pyrenees Highway - which includes a 1,500-metre earthen levee bank, open drainage and associated works.

The Carisbrook Levee project was designed by specialists Entura in response to major floods which occurred in 2010 and 2011.

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Chris Meddows-Taylor said it was wonderful to see works on the final stage of the project now underway.

“This is the final critical step in managing flood mitigation in Carisbrook, and so to have works underway is without a doubt one of the biggest milestones for the project to date.

“Weather permitting, we are hopeful that completion will be by November 2022.

“We thank the Federal and State Government for their continued support in delivering this critical project and acknowledge that is has been a long process for our community of Carisbrook.”

Council received $1.2 million for Stage Four (the final stage) of the Carisbrook Levee project, after a joint agreement between the Federal and State Government was finalised earlier in the year.

Council has also allocated $600,000 to the project.
