LOGO COMPETITION

kids.dunolly.cool.spaces.grab.jpg

Calling school students - we need your help!

We’re looking for a simple, eye-catching logo to brand Cool Spaces across Central Goldfields Shire.

We’re asking primary and secondary school aged students in our Shire to create one.

Dunolly Primary School Year 3/4s enthusiastically embraced the task, following an education session about the harm that persistent hot weather can cause our most vulnerable residents, family and pets.

Hand draw or digitally create your logo and email it to:

genevieve.barlow@cgoldshire.vic.gov.au(External link) by September 10, 2025.

The winning logo will be used on buildings and in our campaign material to tell people where Cool Spaces havens are and why they’re important.

Prizes include double passes to Maryborough’s Paramount Cinema.

TREE SAFETY

bealiby.tree.over.road.jpg

Our Parks and Open Spaces team has been taking down dangerous trees along our roadsides this week.

This four-trunk eucalypt (see picture) was high in priority, given its weighty lean over Bealiba-Moliagul Road. Farm fencing nearby was ‘dropped’ to prevent damage and the road was closed until safe for traffic.

The team has also been busy recently with storm damage across our Shire, and the preparation of ovals for football finals.

If you’re concerned about trees along our Council roads or in our parks, be sure to report it by visiting: www.centralgoldfieldsshire.vic.gov.au/Report-A-Problem

COMMUNITY SERVICE

A mechanic by trade, Andy McAdam first joined the Depot team in a concrete finisher role.

When the Shire’s mechanic went on long service leave, Andy stepped up to run the workshop – a role he’s returned to and led with expertise ever since.

From chainsaws to trucks, tractors, graders, chainsaws and everything in between, Andy loves the variety his role brings – keeping our fleet running smoothly.

It’s a busy job, continually changing with technology. In recent years our Depot has expanded its road construction and maintenance capability. Our Shire is also trialling the use of electric vehicles, so he never stops learning new skills.

Thank you Andy, for your 35 years of dedicated service to our community.

PUBLIC TOILET UPDATE

Since last year our Facilities and Maintenance team have been monitoring the use of amenities across our Shire using remote sensors. This has substantially increased the efficiency of cleaning and servicing.

We’ve also been trialling the lock up of toilet blocks overnight, to reduce vandalism and help keep them clean.

This month we’re rolling out automatic locks on more of our facilities so they close overnight at:

  • Maryborough - Phillips Gardens, the Adventure Playground (Burns Street), Coronation Park, Princes Park (disabled toilet only), Clarendon Street (opposite Post Office)
  • Carisbrook – Market Reserve
  • Dunolly – Gordon Gardens

The upgrades are expected to be finished during October. If you see a problem with any of our facilities, you can scan a QR code with your phone and send a priority alert to our team. For urgent assistance phone 0419 005 577.
