CREATE YOUR ENTRY FOR COMMUNITY ART EXHIBITION
Creativity will take centre stage again this summer as the much‑loved Community Art Exhibition returns to Central Goldfields Art Gallery.
This year’s theme, In my mother’s cupboard, invites artists of all ages to explore memories, treasured objects and the stories held in the things we keep.
To help community members prepare their entries, the Gallery will host a free creative workshop with artist Evie Meikle on Sunday 6 September from 1 to 3pm.
Designed for both seasoned exhibitors and first‑time makers, the workshop will guide participants through hands‑on activities in design, storytelling and creative thinking - all within the playful constraint of a cardboard box.
Residents from Central Goldfields Shire and Avoca are encouraged to get involved.

WALK OR RIDE: HAVE YOUR SAY
We are seeking community feedback on the Draft Walking and Cycling Strategy 2026–2030, which outlines a refreshed, more connected and financially sustainable approach to how we move around our towns.
The updated Strategy focuses on strengthening the Shire’s 63.6km network of footpaths and shared paths - maintaining what we have, renewing ageing sections, and identifying where new links are needed to make everyday walking and cycling safer, easier and more enjoyable.
Your feedback will help us prioritise improvements and ensure our paths connect our community to the places they use most.

Princes Park ready for finals
It’s footy and netball finals time and that means our Operations Team have been busy over recent weeks to ensure Maryborough’s Princes Park is looking its best.
This includes mowing the oval, cleaning the grandstand and ensuring that seating is clean and in good order and that personal facilities are clean, well-stocked and in good operating order.
It takes our team several hours to clean up after each game and get ready for the next one, plus our team is on hand to respond to emergency call-outs to conduct venue maintenance.
Best of luck to all teams competing in the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League finals this weekend.
Sealed road shoulder grading
Grading road shoulders is a core part of Council business to ensure our roads are safe.
All 650kms of the shire’s sealed roads are graded annually over six weeks during winter. Scheduling this work in winter saves dollars because there’s less need for water to be trucked to help bind the road edge material while grading.
Annual roadside spraying program begins
Council’s annual roadside spraying program is now underway.
Annually our Operations Team sprays about 3,000 litres a day over eight weeks to help control grass on the sides of the Shire’s sealed and unsealed roads.
This helps keep grass down grasses down and views clear for motorists, cyclists and other road users and also aids Council’s roadside grass-slashing program.
