AUSTRALIA DAY 2026
Thank you to everyone who attended the many Australia Day celebrations across our Shire and a big shout out to the community groups and volunteers who supported events in our towns.
Congratulations to our Central Goldfields Shire Australia Day Award recipients Nick Weaver (Citizen of the Year), Harriet Thoroughgood (Young Citizen of the Year) and Goldfields Community Festival (Community Award).

SHEREE SHINES
Our own Sheree Lendon received a Tilly Aston Award at the Carisbrook community’s Australia Day event.
In her local community, Sheree volunteers as President of the Carisbrook Primary School Council and the Carisbrook Football Netball Club as secretary, previously as canteen manager.
During 2025, Sheree was also involved with co-ordinating the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League finals series.

Sheree now works in our People and Culture team, after 12 years in our Operations Centre/Depot as a Business Support Officer.
She also steps up in times of emergency working as an After Hours Coordinator at Council, joins our Relief Centre Staff and serves as Municipal Recovery Manager (MRM) to support our communities following flood, fire, or whatever challenges residents face in the months and years that follow the impact of emergency situations.
Well done Sheree! We’re proud to have you on our team.
FREE MEASLES VACCINE
Children receive two doses of the MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) vaccine. However, those of us older than 19 years of age may only have received one dose, leaving us at risk of illness or possibly spreading measles in our community.
Measles can be very dangerous for young children, and there has been a concerning rise in cases across Australia spread by travellers returning from overseas in the past 12 months.
To combat this risk, our Immunisation team are providing a free clinic at the Maryborough Community Hub next Thursday 5 Februrary, supported by the Victorian Government.
Adults are encouraged to check their immunisation records to ensure they are fully vaccinated with both doses, and to protect our community from further spread of measles in 2026.
The clinic is timed to allow adults to receive the needed second dose after work, from 5.30pm to 8pm at the Community Hub, 48 Burns Street.
