SUMMER SPORTS UPGRADE

grandstand.view.of.cricket.pitch.jpg

Two exciting projects are set to revitalise Maryborough’s Princes Park precinct over the coming months.

Three brand-new turf cricket pitches are being delivered at Princes Park which is welcome news for our local cricket community – including the Maryborough Cricket Club.

The project includes the removal of existing pitches, installing sub-surface drainage, upgrading irrigation, and construction of three new turf pitches on the oval.

The $190,000 project is being funded thanks to $50,000 from Council, $100,000 from the State Government and $40,000 from Cricket Australia with Shay Excavations to deliver the project.

At the Maryborough Tennis Centre, a major court redevelopment will commence shortly.

The project will deliver five new synthetic grass courts to replace the existing middle bank of grass courts.

This $523,000 project is jointly funded thanks to $400,000 from the Victorian Government, $71,700 from Council, $20,000 contribution from the Maryborough Tennis Centre and a $31,300 National Court Rebate.

The new courts are set to be completed by early 2026 and will complement the newly refurbished kitchen – also funded by Council.

Our Facilities and Maintenance team are now putting the finishing touches on the refurbishment of the Centre’s kitchen.

CALL OUT FOR FEEDBACK

Our Draft Council Plan (incorporating our Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan), Draft Financial Plan and Draft Asset Plan are now available for community feedback.

These documents are important because they guide our work, decision making and strategic direction over the next four years.

All documents have been informed by the feedback you shared with us between March and May.

FREE COMMUNITY WEBSITE

website.grab.community.directory.jpg

Not-for-profit organisations are encouraged to advertise on our new online Community Directory and Events pages.

It’s free to promote events, groups, clubs, services, associations and facilities in our Shire. Events can also be found by searching from the landing page of Council’s website and are visible on the broader internet.

The service replaces the popular Leisure Services Guide, which is still available for download. The last edition was 2023.

It’s easy to get started using our step-by-step guide, by visiting:

ESCAPE THE VAPE

We’re inviting parents to a “Vaping 101” session next week, offering essential information about young people and vaping in our community.

The session will be led by Bronwyn Grieve, a Community Nurse from Castlemaine Health and is open to all parents in our Shire.

The event is organised by Council in partnership with VicHealth, hosted by Highview College from 6.30 to 7.30pm on Thursday 4 September in the Geoff James Theatre, 21 Kars St, Maryborough.

Registrations are complimentary:

SCHOOL VISITS

We've been visiting local schools to help explain the Victorian Government's new waste system to young students, based on recycling and reuse.

It's also an opportunity for children to learn about Cool Spaces and how to escape extreme heat.

Hot weather can make people sick. That’s why on really hot days it’s good to check on our neighbours, friends, family and pets to make sure they’re keeping cool.

We're running a competition to find a logo, to point people looking for relief in the right direction around our Shire. There's prizes to be won too!
