GALLERY OPENING

The winner of the Golden Textures Contemporary Art Quilt Award will be announced at 2pm this Saturday 28 June 2025 by our Mayor, Councillor Grace La Vella, who will also officially launch the exhibition at Central Goldfields Art Gallery.  Everyone is invited to attend this special occasion and entry is free.

Nineteen art quilts from around Australia have been selected as finalists for the $3,000 Award, all of which will be on display until 12 October.

Plus you can vote for your favourite quilt in the People’s Choice Award.

The art quilts are selected from around Australia every two years, highlighting diverse methods and materials used by artists in this form.

HEALTHY ENVIRONMENTS

Moving Messages

e-waste.truck.electronic.sign.station.jpg

Our team is spreading the word far and wide about the value of our recycled waste and how to sort it. The Victorian Government requires standardisation of the bin waste system across the state by July 2027.

The only major change will be the separation of glass from the recycling bin to improve the efficiency of processing for re-use.

In the meantime, there’s lots of little things we can do to help, like:

  • Keeping e-waste and batteries out of household bins
  • Ensuring recycle bins are not packed too tight
  • Washing out containers before disposal

Learn more about improving our waste system by visiting:

Resale Shop Discount Day

community.art.robert1.jpg

To stimulate creative inspiration for this year’s Community Arts competition, there’s a special opportunity to choose items at discounted prices from the Resale Shop at 125 William Road Carisbrook next week between 10am to 1pm on Wednesday 2 July.

Local artists and community members (including from Avoca) are encouraged to create an artwork using something recycled or upcycled or respond to the theme of ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ for their entry to the exhibition to be held at the Central Goldfields Art Gallery in November.

Entries close 9 November. Visit:

FUTURE PROSPECTS

Thomas from Bealiba has always had a passion for mechanical engineering, but didn’t know that our Council Depot had a machinery workshop.

His Year 10 careers advisor at Maryborough Education Centre suggested a week's work experience with our Operations crew, mainly Andy our resident mechanic.

Now Thomas is learning all manner of machines, from lawn mowers to road graders. Plus, he can see a clear career pathway - maybe working for us one day?

MEC Year 10’s worked this week, with Highview College students coming in next week.

Students have been placed at Goldfields Family Centre, Parks and Open Spaces, Facilities and Maintenance, Roads and Works and Local Laws.

YOU’VE GOT MAIL!

It may be cold outside, but our Winter Community Update magazine is still hot off the press!

You can read it online at www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/communityupdate or keep an eye out in your letterbox next week.

In our latest edition we take a deep dive into the Emergency Services and Volunteers Fund, launch our new tourism guide, and ramp up our 2025 Community Grants opportunity.

We also ‘break down’ the process of recycling your green waste into rich, organic compost at our Carisbrook Transfer Station, and then take a closer look at our Maryborough Library – a fantastic place to hide away from the winter cold!

Plus, we reveal your responses to our Council Plan questionnaire, “What Matters to You?” including some impressive artistic impressions from our youngest contributors.

There’s also updates on new facilities, fitness for the winter months and wrap ups from our rural wards. Did we mention that we won a statewide award?

Time to curl up in front of the fire and have a warm winter read!
