COUNCILS UNITE FOR RAIL
Mayor Cr Ben Green joined Hepburn Mayor Cr Tony Clark, Ballarat Mayor Cr Tracey Hargreaves and the Public Transport Users Association’s Patrick Jarvinen this week to advocate for improved rail services across the region.
There are currently just two trains a day linking Maryborough, Talbot, Clunes and Creswick with Ballarat, and the timetable doesn’t suit people commuting for work and study. We are calling for five trains per day on weekdays, and the Public Transport Users Association (Ballarat branch) is seeking trains every two hours.
Candidates and parties contesting the Victorian State Election have been asked for their support.
SLAB POURED AT DELEDIO
Exciting progress at Deledio Recreation Reserve in Dunolly, with the concrete slab now poured for the new pavilion.
The new facility will replace the ageing 1977 pavilion and will provide new change rooms and amenities, undercover social and viewing areas, first aid facilities, rainwater harvesting and solar power.
The project is jointly funded through a $1.5 million contribution from the Australian Government, $1 million from the Victorian Government’s Regional Community Sports and Infrastructure Program, and $500,000 from Council.
Construction is being delivered by MKM Building Group, with the new pavilion expected to be completed in early 2027.
MIGRATION GROWTH BOOM
Central Goldfields Shire has recorded the highest percentage increase in net internal migration in Australia, jumping 312 per cent in the 12 months to June 2026.
Published in the Regional Australia Institute's Regional Movers Index, which analyses address changes among more than 14.6 million Commonwealth Bank customers, the figures place Central Goldfields number one nationally for annual migration growth.
It's a great boost for our community and our economy, bringing new faces to our sporting teams, schools and volunteer groups, and more customers for our local businesses.
