FREE BBQ FIRES UP
Within hours of the fencing coming down, the new shelter, seating, lighting and free access electric BBQ at Goldfields Reservoir in Maryborough was used.
Local contractors Heenan Homes and Construction built the facility, with Eascom Electrical installing power and lights to the shelter. Work commenced on 5 May.
The project was made possible thanks to the Maryborough Lions Club securing a $29,000 grant from the Community Bank Avoca, Maryborough and St Arnaud as part of the 2024 Community Grant Program.
Maryborough Lions Club contributed additional funds towards the project with Council providing project management support and ongoing maintenance.
The shelter features two free barbecues, timer-activated electric lighting and running water.

ROAD WORKS
Work is underway on two of four Maryborough intersection safety upgrades, funded by the Victorian Government and the TAC.
Our Roads and Works team will first install footpaths and gutters at each site, followed by traffic islands, then the four will be refurbished with asphalt.

Over coming weeks, the four intersections to be improved are:
- Alma and Brougham streets (underway)
- Brougham and Burke streets (underway)
- Napier and Hilton streets (commencing next week)
- Kars and High streets (commencing 30 June)
The four intersections will first have new footpaths and gutters installed, followed by new traffic islands. The roadways will then be refurbished with asphalt at all corners on the same day. We’ll let you know when the date is confirmed.
For everyone’s safety, please observe reduced speed limits and the directions from our traffic controllers – especially in foggy or icy conditions. For further information on the safety upgrade plan, visit:
www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/SaferRoads
TRIMMING DOWN
Our Open Spaces crews have been busy trimming trees around our Shire, now being the best time of year for pruning.
Maintenance to improve the shape and health of established trees ensures long life and continued growth, also ensuring the safety of community footpaths. In some cases, there are requirements to clear branches away from power lines.
If you know of any trees requiring attention due to damage or for safety reasons, you can upload an image and describe the situation in detail – and even receive a report when the work is completed, by visiting:
www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/Report-A-Problem

LOCAL LAWS
In late 2023 we asked the community how we should draft our new local laws, which require updating every ten years. We met with communities around our Shire and encouraged feedback, paying particular attention to common complaints and requests we receive.
Since then, we have drafted the Local Law 2025 with support from our legal advisor, incorporating some new laws and clarifying some existing laws.
You can now review the Draft Local Law 2025 and see a list of the changes, then comment by visiting:
