Yellow Recycling Bin
Residents of the Central Goldfields are great recyclers and 1032 tonnes was collected during 2025-26!
The yellow-lidded bin, designed for household packaging materials, including paper, cardboard, rigid plastics, glass, and metals is one of the most used bins in the shire.
To help keep up the good work and make sure these materials can be processed into new items, keep placing them in the bin loose, empty, and rinsed. Remember, do not put your recycling inside plastic bags.
Items from the kitchen, laundry and bathroom are the most common products found in the yellow bin and are by far the most recycled products.
Liquid washing powder bottles or cardboard boxes and the scoops from washing power, used dishwashing liquid bottles and shampoo and conditioner bottles are just a few items found in the yellow bin. Other items that can be recycled and are commonly found in the yellow recycling bin are clean cans, wine bottles and sauce bottles.
Sometimes though, looking at the item, you don’t always know which bin it should go into, so take a few minutes and look for the recycling logo on the packaging. This will help you make sure you continue to use the right bin each time.
Energy Breakthrough
Energy Breakthrough is gearing up for another successful event from 18–22 November.
This year’s program has surged past expectations, with the Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) category attracting its highest number of entries since pre-COVID events.
Registrations across all other categories remain strong, with limited places still available.
The event continues to be delivered in partnership with the Central Goldfields Shire Council, the Country Education Partnership, and a dedicated network of schools, sponsors, community groups and more than 700 volunteers.

Free Community Workshop
Learn the easy skill of ‘finger-hooking’ created by Dr Flossie Peitsch and become part of her exhibition RAGGED & TAGGED & FLAGGED!
Each person will use a small weaving kit and have time to develop a mini panel of their own design which will be added to this exhibition. This workshop is 16+ but suited to all levels of skill. All materials supplied and registration is essential. Places are limited, book now!

Roundabout open
The new roundabout on the corner of Nolan and Burns streets in Maryborough opened on Wednesday, 15 July 2026. The project was fully funded by the Victorian Government.
Pickleball
Pickleball will resume for Term 3 on Wednesday, 29 July 2026 at the Nolan Street gym. Sessions will run at 4.30pm and 5.15pm each Wednesday until 16 September. Bookings are not required.
