Do you generously give your time to support your community?

Maybe you help at your local football or netball club, bowling club or with a local community group like Zonta, Rotary or Lions?

Or perhaps you support a neighbour or volunteer at your local school, kindergarten or church?

However you contribute and wherever you do it – we want to recognise the integral role you play.

All Central Goldfields volunteers are invited to our National Volunteer Week thank you event to be held on Monday 19 May, 5.30pm at the Maryborough Harness Racing Club (337 Bucknall Street, Carisbrook).

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Grace La Vella said the annual volunteer thank you event was an important opportunity for our volunteers to be acknowledged for the work that they do.

“I’m incredibly proud of all the wonderful volunteers that we have here in our Shire. Together they work across many settings and under a variety of conditions, they are there in disasters, they run events, they enable vital services, and often their work in our community goes unnoticed.

“Through our Council Plan process four years ago we heard from our community that they wanted our volunteers to be recognised for their contribution.

“That’s why each year we partner with Maryborough Volunteer Resource Group to do just that. This is our opportunity to celebrate our volunteers and publicly thank them for their dedication and contribution in making our Shire a great place to live.

“The theme of this year’s National Volunteer Week is “Connecting Communities”. There’s no doubt that volunteering does just that – volunteering brings people together and fosters a sense of belonging.

“In small communities such as ours – volunteers are key to so many of our local clubs, activities and events – put simply we’d be lost without them.”

Maryborough Volunteer Resource Centre President Tony Macer said he was reminded almost every day that we should be incredibly proud of our exemplary and dedicated local volunteer community.

“As President of the MVRG, I have been privileged to be able to work with so many amazing volunteers who give up their time for the benefit of the community.”

At this year’s event, the Maryborough Volunteer Resource Group will also launch their brand-new website designed to support all not-for-profit groups in our Shire.

This is a ticketed event (free entry) and open to all volunteers in the Central Goldfields Shire community.

Please register your attendance by Friday 16 May online at www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/thankyou or alternatively you can email events@cgoldshire.vic.gov.au or phone 0408 326 157.

A courtesy bus from Maryborough is also available for those who are unable to make the drive to the venue. Volunteers needing to access this service can request this when RSVP’ing via the above options.
