Share your ideas for Energy Breakthrough

As planning starts to ramp up for Energy Breakthrough 2025, the Central Goldfields community is being invited to share their ideas, reflections and suggestions for the future of the much-loved event.

An informal gathering will be held on Monday 23 June at 6pm at the Maryborough Community Hub and will be hosted by Energy Breakthrough organisers and the Maryborough Volunteer Resource Group.

Attendees are encouraged to bring constructive ideas – big or small – that could help shape the event’s long-term future.

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Grace La Vella said community input would help spark new conversations and strengthen our community’s involvement.

“Whether you’re a long-time volunteer, a participant, a local business owner, or someone who just enjoys the atmosphere every November, your perspective is welcome.

“This is an opportunity to sit down together and reflect on the journey of Energy Breakthrough so far and explore what might be possible in the years ahead.

“We’re inviting anyone with a passion for the event to share their thoughts in a casual, welcoming and open environment.”

Country Education Partnership CEO Mark McLay said the long-running event has always been about education, and collaboration.

“Energy Breakthrough has thrived for more than 30 years because it brings together people from all walks of life – educators, students, volunteers, and locals. These conversations are a great chance to listen, learn, and ensure the event continues to evolve.”

Maryborough Volunteer Resource Group President Tony Macer said MVRG were proud to co-host the conversation as part of its commitment to the local community.

“Energy Breakthrough is an educational event that energises our town and sparks imagination in young people. We’re looking forward to hearing what matters most to our community as we look to the future.”

The 2025 Energy Breakthrough event will be held in Maryborough – 19 to 23 November 2025.

The event is a joint initiative between Central Goldfields Shire Council, Country Education Partnership (CEP) and brings together thousands of students, educators, volunteers, and families to design, build and showcase creative innovations in technology, energy, and transport.
