The athletic facilities at Jack Pascoe Reserve in Maryborough have been upgraded.

After years of advocacy, the long jump, triple jump and javelin run-ups have been re-asphalted.

The $25,000 project was fully funded by Council and delivered by Doran Earthmoving and Centre State Asphalting.

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Grace La Vella said the upgrade to the Jack Pascoe facilities were long overdue.

“We are so pleased we’ve been able to deliver these much-needed improvements at Jack Pascoe Reserve. The old run-ups were at the end of their life and had become cracked and dangerous – mainly by root damage from the nearby gumtrees.

“These facilities are well-used – not only by our local Maryborough Little Athletics Club but also by our local schools. It’s important that our local children have access to quality infrastructure so that they can learn and develop their athletics skills.

“We look forward to seeing the upgraded run-ups used and enjoyed for many years to come.”

Maryborough Little Athletics Club Secretary David Tull said they would like to thank Council for providing the funding and the planning resources to resurface the runups for the javelin and jump pits.

“The cracking in the old runups was becoming dangerous and discussions were being held as to whether we may be forced to remove those events from the program.

“It was a pleasure to work with Council’s Infrastructure team members Grant and Leigh to ensure the project was completed on time.”
