Central Goldfields Shire Council is inviting community feedback on three draft policies designed to strengthen transparency, fairness and consistency in the management of Council land and facilities.

The draft Leasing and Licensing Policy, Community Facility Hire Policy and Sale and Acquisition of Land Policy update existing policies and provide clearer guidance for Council decision-making.

The draft Leasing and Licensing Policy outlines principles for leasing Council-managed land, introduces clearer tenant categories and strengthens the focus on fair and transparent arrangements. It applies to current and prospective tenants and licensees, including sporting clubs, community groups and commercial businesses.

The Leasing and Licensing Policy will not change existing lease or licence agreements, with the updated framework applying to future agreements.

The draft Community Facility Hire Policy expands the scope of the previous Casual Hire Policy, which covered the Community Hub and Maryborough Town Hall, to include all Council hireable venues. These include sporting ovals, courts and other facilities. The updated policy establishes principles to support fair and consistent hiring arrangements.

The Community Facility Hire Policy does not change the process for hiring facilities but provides clearer principles to guide decisions.

The draft Sale and Acquisition of Land Policy provides a clearer framework and stronger criteria for decisions involving the sale or acquisition of Council land, supporting transparency and compliance with the Local Government Act 2020.

Mayor Cr Ben Green said the draft policies would help ensure Council’s approach to managing its land and facilities was fair, consistent and transparent.

“These policies provide clearer guidance for how we make decisions about leasing Council land, hiring community facilities and managing the sale and acquisition of land.

“We want to ensure our processes are transparent and consistent, while supporting the needs of our community and making sure decisions are made in line with our responsibilities.”

Community members are encouraged to review the draft policies and provide feedback online until 5pm, Thursday 19 November at www.engage.cgoldshire.vic.gov.au/propertyandfacilitypolicies

Feedback will help Council understand community perspectives as it considers the proposed policies.
