Central Goldfields Shire Council has been announced as a finalist in the Digital and Technology category of the 2026 LGPro Awards for Excellence, for its innovative Video Storytelling for Community Impact initiative.
The use of video storytelling has transformed the way Council communicates with residents, using in‑house video production to deliver clear, engaging, and accessible information across Facebook and YouTube.
By combining humour, relatable storytelling, and local faces and places, Council has been able to increase its reach and engagement.
Over the past 12 months, Council’s videos have reached more than 1.9 million people, with an average of 5,000 views per post. Some videos have reached as many as 27,000 views, demonstrating strong community appetite for accessible, authentic content.
The approach has also delivered measurable engagement outcomes, including a 300% increase in responses to the 10‑year Local Laws Review.
Chief Executive Officer Peter Harriott said the recognition reflects Council’s commitment to modern, user‑centred communication.
“This nomination is a testament to the creativity and dedication of our communications team. By meeting our community where they are - online, on their phones, and looking for information that feels real and relevant - we’ve been able to communicate and engage with residents across the Shire.”
The initiative is entirely delivered in‑house using existing staff and equipment, making it a cost‑effective and scalable model for small rural councils.
Winners will be announced at the LGPro Awards for Excellence event on Thursday 18 June.
