Capturing the Wild – paintings and photography by Milton Moss
Published on 19 May 2026
Maryborough artist Milton Moss presents a striking new exhibition showcasing the dramatic landscape paintings and photographs of the Moolort Plains and Joyce’s Creek area of Central Goldfields and surrounding Central Victorian region.
Capturing the Wild – painting and photography by Milton Moss will be officially opened at Central Goldfields Art Gallery at 2pm, Saturday 23 May and will be on exhibition until 16 August, 2026.
A retired advertising Art Director, Milton brings decades of creative experience to his work, blending his background in photography with a renewed passion for painting.
Beginning his career in Melbourne’s printing industry as a letterpress and offset printer, Milton later moved into advertising, working across major national accounts before establishing the successful Moss Group agency with his son, Darren Moss.
Now retired, Milton enjoys painting, photography and chasing storms nearly every day. His work has been exhibited locally at the Newstead Arts Hub, Shedshaker Brewery Company, and other venues in Castlemaine and surrounding townships.
Reflecting on his journey, Milton said he always loved art and drawing.
“It was the only thing I was really good at in school. Art led me into a career in advertising and my personal art took a back seat for a number of decades. But I’m so glad I started again.
“Now I have time to pursue my love of art. I have always loved wild weather landscape photography and one day the penny dropped. I decided to combine my two loves; using my photographic experience of being out in the weather and my passion for painting these landscapes in oils. The end result is a collection captured wildly with my lens and dramatically reimagined on canvas.”
Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Ben Green said Milton Moss has captured the essence of our region with extraordinary sensitivity and skill.
“His work celebrates the beauty, drama and character of the Central Goldfields landscape, and we are proud to showcase the talent of a local artist whose creativity continues to inspire our community.”
