Library visitation increases ahead of upcoming Book Week events

Central Goldfields Shire Council is celebrating strong growth across its Library Service, with new data showing thousands of visits, high borrowing rates and record participation in children’s programming - all ahead of a vibrant calendar of Book Week events next week.
Year‑on‑year results show visits increasing 4% (from 45,199 to 47,022) and total loans rising 3% to 59,566, while digital engagement continued to surge, with e‑book and e‑audio loans jumping 15% to 12,637.
School holiday programming recorded the biggest uplift, with participation up 86% and sessions up 53%, and seniors programming more than doubled, increasing 101% year on year. Adult programming participation grew 14%, and Outreach and Home Library visits rose sharply, up 68%, highlighting the continued importance of accessible services across the Shire.
July alone saw 4,346 patron visits, reinforcing the Library’s role as one of the Shire’s busiest and most valued community hubs.

Families are invited to dress up as their favourite book characters and join themed storytime and craft sessions during Book Week 2026.This year’s Book Week theme is Symphony of Stories.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover
One of the Library’s most loved traditions - the Eleventh Annual Stuffed Animal Sleepover - is back on Friday 28 August, offering a magical after‑hours experience for children aged 3–12.
The free event at the Maryborough Library includes pyjama storytime, craft and supper, followed by an overnight “sleepover” for each child’s favourite stuffed toy. Families return the next morning to collect their toy and receive photos from its library adventure.
