AUSTRALIA DAY 2024
Congratulations to all those nominated for our Australia Day awards, along with winners Goldfields Park Run (Community Award of the Year), Khoa Do (Young Citizen of the Year) and Aileen Marshall (Citizen of the Year).
We would especially like to thank the many volunteers, suppliers and community groups who delivered a wonderful day across our whole Shire. A tribute video is available to view at: www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/Australia-Day-2024
A heartfelt welcome and congratulations to our ten new Australian citizens, wishing them every success in our community.
It is of note that Khoa Do (Young Citizen of the Year) himself became an Australian citizen in Central Goldfields during 2021.
MAKING THE GRADE
Our grading crews have been busy over recent weeks. Cooler conditions have enabled grading of:
- Kicks Lane, Separation Road (Dunolly) and Burkinshaw Road (Bung Bong) – completed.
- Dooleys Road, Arcadia Court, (Maryborough) – next week.
- Gallaways Road, Plantation Road, Buiks Road (Majorca) – next week.
Please drive patiently around grading machinery for your safety – operators will make space to assist if given the time.
Asphalt overlay of roads is also commencing. Contractors will mail drop in the preceding days at:
- Webb Court Maryborough, where works are scheduled for Thursday 8 February.
- Victor Court Maryborough, where works are scheduled for Friday 9 February.
In preparation for a major road upgrade along Burns Street, Maryborough, Mark Twain Road will be closed up to the McDonald’s driveway next week. Our Operations Team are moving and improving the footpath before the major night works in coming weeks.
We will advise of road closures, scheduled times and any detours when finalized.
We’ve been working with local residents to develop the Talbot Future Structure Plan (TFSP), and this work is almost complete. The local heritage control for Talbot needs to be reviewed to make sure Talbot’s heritage is protected.
Stage One is foundation research that will confirm the ‘historic core’ of Talbot and assist to identify areas to protect.
If you would like to learn more, there is a community information session on Monday 19 February from 5.30pm to 7pm at ANA Hall, Talbot. Details can also be found online by visiting: www.engage.cgoldshire.vic.gov.au/talbotfutures
