Bushfire Management Overlay
The BMO is a planning control applied to properties with the potential to be affected by extreme bushfires. If your property is in a Bushfire Management Overlay, you may need a planning permit if you want to build or develop your land, and you will need to meet bushfire protection requirements.
Further information, including useful resources can be found on the CFA website and DELWP website
When proposing use or development on land affected by the BMO it is often a requirement to undertake an assessment of the land and surrounding bushfire hazards in order to determine exactly which protection measures would be appropriate. Assessments can include the preparation of a Bushfire Management Statement (BMS), Bushfire Hazard Site and/or Landscape Assessments. Planning permit applicants may undertake these assessments themselves or seek assistance from consultants.
The following listing of bushfire consultants is provided for the convenience of developers, land owners and prospective land owners. Central Goldfields Shire Council does not recommend any of the Consultants in preference over another nor guarantee that the quality of work provided will necessarily be satisfactory.
Central Goldfields Shire Council will not be held responsible for any issues that may arise due to inadequate Statements being prepared, or any costs (financial or other) that may be incurred during the assessment process.
NB. There are other Consultants, not specifically listed below whom may also be able to prepare Bushfire Assessments that may be acceptable to the CFA and Council (as the Responsible Authority). Applicants are welcome to pursue other consultants not specifically listed below which may be found in the yellow pages (bushfire consultants).
