Funding announced

$120,000 in funding for the Castlemaine Maryborough Rail Trail was announced by State Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards last week (10/06).

The funding is thanks to the Victorian Government’s Tourism Enabling Fund and is for a feasibility study for the development of a 55km shared-use trail on the disused rail corridor between Maryborough and Castlemaine.

Council has partnered with Mount Alexander Shire to help the Castlemaine Maryborough Rail Trail project secure funding for the study and support the passionate group of residents behind Castlemaine-Maryborough Rail Trail who have advocated for this project for a number of years.

The Castlemaine Maryborough Rail Trail project was identified as one of Council’s priority projects.

L2P program volunteers wanted

Traffic Accident Commission L2P Driver Mentor volunteers were presented with new uniforms (pictured) last week.

The L2P program assists disadvantaged learner drivers to gain the 120 hours of driving experience they need to get their probationary license.

With a growing number of learner drivers wanting to participate in the program we are calling on more volunteers to help deliver this valuable program for our community.

For more information, and to register your interest in becoming a driver mentor, contact Council’s TAC L2P Coordinator Audrey Bartlett on 5461 0610 or email audreyb@cgoldshire.vic.gov.au

JOIN THE CONVERSATION

Did you know we have a dedicated website for the community to provide feedback and input into Council decision making?

We encourage you to visit www.engage.cgoldshire.vic.gov.au to find out about current and past engagement opportunities as well as information about major projects.

We are currently raising awareness of:

Asset Plan

The Central Goldfields Shire Asset Plan 2022-2032 is available for the community to view and become familiar with. It’s an important document which talks about how Council will manage and maintain its assets over the next 10 years.

Council assets include everything from roads, footpaths, bridges, buildings including libraries and public toilets, drainage, playgrounds, picnic tables, lakes, garden beds – just to name a few.

The Plan will continue to develop in the future as the individual asset plans for the sub-areas of the Asset Plans are created.

To find out more and get involved visit www.engage.cgoldshire.vic.gov.au/assetplan

PROJECT UPDATE

Nightingale Street

Works to upgrade Nightingale Street Maryborough, between Park Road and Palmerston Street, are now complete with line marking taking place last week.

The project has been funded by the Federal Government's Roads to Recovery Program.

Maintenance Grading

Maintenance grading is continuing across the Shire. Due to higher-than-average rainfall over the past few months, we’ve had an influx of work requests for maintenance grading.

We have one grader crew currently working through requests in the Wareek area – with the crew prioritising roads in the worst condition before working towards a maintenance cycle based on road conditions.

We are working towards having two additional grading crews operating from July to get through the requests as quickly as possible
