On Display Indefinitely

 New Council website now live

Council’s online presence has been transformed with our new website now live.

The new website connects residents with information and services more quickly easily and efficiently – reflecting Council’s commitment to improving communication and community engagement for our community.

The new website is one of many new and improved methods of engagement being introduced by Council. It acts as an online customer service counter for the community – one that residents can access anytime and anywhere from a range of digital platforms – including mobile devices.

Maryborough Regional Library – Have Your Say

Council is inviting residents to provide feedback on the Maryborough Regional Library service. Community input will help drive the future direction of library service. Feedback is invited via:

  • Online survey
  • Hard-copy survey - available at the Maryborough Regional Library, Dunolly Library and Outreach Library Service, Talbot Community Library and Council’s Customer Service Centre, 22 Nolan Street, Maryborough
  • Come along to one of our Community Consultation events:
  • Monday 10 December, 6pm - Talbot Community Library
  • Tuesday 11 December, 6pm – Dunolly Library, St John’s Hall
  • Wednesday 12 December, 6pm – Maryborough Regional Library
  • Thursday 13 December, 6pm – Carisbrook Primary School

An additional community consultation session for young people, aged between 14 and 25 years, will be held on Tuesday 18 December, 6pm at the Maryborough Regional Library.

Responses are anonymous. The closing date for feedback is Friday 21 December, 2018.

Pyrenees Hwy and Gordon Road intersection upgrade

As part of the 2018/2019 Central Goldfields Shire Council Budget, the Pyrenees Highway/Gordon Road intersection is currently being upgraded.

The intersection will be realigned to a T-intersection to ensure safety when entering and exiting the Pyrenees Highway.

The project is expected to be completed next week with the intersection set to reopen to traffic.

This can be done during office hours and is free of charge.

Any person who may be affected by the granting of the permit may object or make other submissions to the Responsible Authority.

An objection must: be sent to the Responsible Authority in writing; include the reasons for the objection; and state how the objector would be affected.

  • The Responsible Authority must make a copy of every objection available at its office for any person to inspect during office hours free of charge until the end of the period during which an application may be made for review of a decision on the application.
  • If you object, the Responsible Authority will tell you its decision.

The Responsible Authority will not decide on the application before: 18 December 2018

Impounded Vehicle

A 1997 green Hyundai sedan was abandoned on Black Smith Gully Road Daisy Hill on 1 November 2018 and was impounded by Central Goldfields Shire Council.

The vehicle will be sold by auction at the Central Goldfields Shire Council Pound, Burns Street, Maryborough at 10.30am on Monday 10 December, 2018.

Early Voting Centre

At last week’s Ordinary Meeting of Council (27/11), Council resolved to write to the Australian Electoral Commission and the Victorian Electoral Commission requesting that an Early Voting Centre be established in Maryborough for all future federal and state elections.

Digital mentoring program

Forty-three local tourism businesses from across the Bendigo region have successfully completed a new digital mentoring program offered by Bendigo Regional Tourism.

The program saw 18 mentors employed to individually mentor business operators in a range of topics like social media, email marketing and search engine optimisation.

The program was targeted at improving digital capacity of small and micro tourism businesses such as retail, accommodation and hospitality businesses across the Bendigo Regional Tourism area (Central Goldfields, Loddon, Mount Alexander and City of Greater Bendigo Shires).

Australia Day nominations extended

Nominations for the 2019 Central Goldfields Shire Australia Day Awards have been extended until 5pm on Friday 14 December.

Awards will be presented across three categories: Citizen of the Year; Young Citizen of the Year; and Community Activity of the Year.

Nomination forms are available online here or in person from Council’s Customer Service Centre, 22 Nolan Street, Maryborough.

Australia Day commemorative medals and free books

Every year, Central Goldfields Shire Council presents commemorative medals to all children born during 2018 and free books for four-year-old children starting kindergarten in 2019.

The commemorative medals and books will be presented at Council’s Australia Day celebrations at the Station Domain in Maryborough on Saturday 26 January, 2018.

To register your child for a medal, email a copy of their birth certificate to or mail to Central Goldfields Shire Council, PO Box 194, Maryborough, 3465 by Friday 25 January, 2019.

To register your child for a free book, email their name, kindergarten they are attending, your name and contact phone number to by Friday 25 January, 2019.

Blue Green Algae detected in Lake Victoria

Council has detected a presence of Blue Green Algae in Lake Victoria, Maryborough.

Warning signs have been erected and water quality will continue to be monitored. Residents should avoid making contact with the water and pet owners are advised to not let their animals drink or swim in the water.

New exhibitions at Art Gallery

A new pop-up exhibition, Articulating Our Art, is now on show at the Central Goldfields Art Gallery as part of International Day of People with Disability.

Articulating Our Art features the works from ASTERIA participants that translates their thoughts, feelings and passions.

Works from the Central Goldfields Art Gallery permanent collection and local and regional artists are also on show now as part of the Treasures from the Collection exhibition.

The Central Goldfields Art Gallery is open Thursday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm.
