Free Green Waste Disposal

To help prepare for the upcoming fire season we're offering free green waste disposal for residents at the Carisbrook, Talbot and Dunolly transfer stations every weekend from now until Sunday 29 November 2020.

Australia Day Award nominations open

Nominations for the 2021 Central Goldfields Shire Australia Day Awards are now open. Categories are:

  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Citizen of the Year
  • Community Event or Project of the Year

Council welcomes funding for lake lighting project

Central Goldfields Shire has welcomed $150,095 in State Government funding for the lighting of Lake Victoria in Maryborough.

Council joins Community Connectors Program

We have joined the Community Activation and Social Isolation (CASI) initiative to help support local residents who are feeling lonely or isolated due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of the program community members can be linked to the Central Goldfields Community Connector who can help with connections with local organisations, local networks and opportunities that provide ongoing emotional, practical or social support. Direct calls can be made to us on 5461 0610.

From Wednesday 11 November 2020 we will be conducting Town Hall Community Connector sessions at different locations throughout the Shire. Dates, times and locations are available via www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/communityconnector

Shop local this Christmas

We’re partnering with The Maryborough District Advertiser and local businesses to help support our local business community as part of the 2020Christmas Shopping Promotion.

Included as part of the Jump Start program, the campaign encourages residents to shop locally this Christmas to support our business community and to aid in the economic recovery from COVID-19.

Community grants now open

Applications for our Community Grants Program are now open. Grants are available to provide assistance to community-based organisations to support programs and services which benefit our Shire.

Community groups can apply online at www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/communitygrants

Hardcopies of the application form are also available by contacting Council’s Customer Service Centre on 5461 0610.

We'll be presenting a community grant information session live on Council’s Facebook page on Wednesday 11 November at 3.30pm.

Community members interested in applying are encouraged

to tune in and ask questions throughout the session. The session will be presented by General Manager Community Wellbeing Martin Collins and Pandemic Recovery Community Development Officer James Rigby.

Local tourism campaign launched

A four week tourism campaign, designed to inspire regional

Victorians to the Central Goldfields is now live. Three television advertisements, developed to showcase all the region has to offer – aim to provide a much-needed boost to local tourism businesses and operators in the wake of COVID-19 government restrictions.

The advertisements are currently being screened on the WIN network and will also reach the metro market via social media once restrictions have eased.

NAIDOC Week celebrations

 We are celebrating NAIDOC Week this year in 2020 fashion, with a special livestreaming of Maryborough’s NAIDOC week ceremony on Dja Dja Wurrung Country.

Activities will include a Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony and Flag Raising Ceremony at 10am Thursday 12 November, 2020.
