 COMMUNITY INFORMATION – FLOODS

Road Management Plan Suspension

Road Management Plan Suspension Due to the extensive flooding currently experienced within the Shire over recent weeks, we have suspended our Road Management Plan (RMP). This means that all intervention response time frames for road defects as stipulated within the RMP will not be applied from 28 October 2022 until 31 March 2023.

This is required due to the extent of damage caused to our road network by the extensive flooding which impacts on our ability to make repairs in the timeframes outlined in the RMP. Council will continue to identify and rectify defects on a prioritised risk basis. Inspection and response to hazards will continue throughout the road network to meet a minimum level of community safety for users.

FUNDING ANNOUNCEMENT

Last week we welcomed a visit from Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford MP to Dunolly to make two exciting funding announcements.

  • $727,707 for the construction of two netball courts with lights at Deledio Reserve Netball Courts in Dunolly. Council will also contribute $242,569 to the project to be allocated in the 2023/24 Council Budget.
  • $30,000 for planning work for an Urban Bike Park, Bristol Hill in Maryborough. Council will also contribute $35,000 to the project – to be allocated in the 2023/24 Council Budget.

Council applied for both grants earlier this year through the Victorian Government’s 2022 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.

ENERGY BREAKTHROUGH

Excitement is building for the return of Maryborough's biggest annual event, Energy Breakthrough for the first time since 2019.

After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, Princes Park will come alive again with more than 5,000 students from over 110 schools around Victoria.

Local tourism, hospitality, accommodation, and retail businesses are set to benefit from an influx of visitors with a crowd of over 20,000 expected to attend the event, providing a much needed/welcomed boost to the region’s economy.

Murray Basin Rail Project

The Ararat-Maryborough rail freight line will be closed to trains until 7.30pm, 15 December, 2022.

The shutdown is in place to allow the ballasting and tamping of the track to complete the upgrade that commenced earlier this year with the re-railing of the line.

Please be advised that the rail corridor will remain a dangerous construction site during this time, despite the absence of trains, with heavy machinery using the line and heavy vehicles using the Pyrenees Highway and adjacent sites. The public is reminded not to enter the rail corridor.

For more information on the Murray Basin Rail Project, contact Regional Rail Revival on 1800 105 105.

WELCOME TO CENTRAL GOLDFIELDS

Blackfella Films are currently filming in the Central Goldfields Shire. They are following the journey of residents who have moved to the Shire as part of the Welcome to Central Goldfields project.

You may see the film crew at some of our major events between now and early next year as they follow the lives of our newest residents.

While their primary focus will be on the new residents, they will also be filming in the community and capturing the voices and lives of local people, there will be information about what’s happening and on how you can opt out of being in front of the camera.
