Have Your Say

Mayor and Councillors allowance

You are invited to provide feedback on the setting of Mayor and Councillor allowances in accordance with the Local Government Act.

At a Meeting of Council last week (25/05), Council endorsed for public submissions a proposal to set the annual allowances at $21,049 for Councillors a year and $62,884 for the Mayor.

This allowance is also subject to an additional 9.5% in superannuation.

Allowances are to compensate Councillors for the duties they perform as an elected representative.

These duties include attending meetings, representing the community at functions and making decisions for the benefit of the municipality.

Draft Positive Ageing Strategy

At last week’s (25/05) Council Meeting, Council endorsed the Draft Positive Ageing Strategy which is now available for community feedback.

The development of the Draft Positive Ageing Strategy is a step in providing Council, stakeholders and residents with a framework to strengthen our community and to prepare Council to respond to our rising aged population demographic.

On current trends, over 40 percent of the Shire’s population will be aged 70+ within 10 years.

Draft Revenue and Rating Plan

Council endorsed the Draft Revenue and Rating Plan at last week’s (25/05) Council Meeting and is now available for community feedback.

The Draft Plan will guide how rates are set in our Shire now and into the future.

Proposed Budget feedback

Over the past month we invited the community to provide feedback on the 2020-2021 Proposed Council Budget.

Three people provided us with written submissions and 17 people attended community information sessions in Maryborough, Carisbrook, Dunolly and Talbot.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to read the Proposed Budget, attend community information sessions and provide input.

Feedback included:

  • Residents welcomed the opportunity to better understand the budget process.
  • There was recognition rate capping provided a challenge to deliver the 40+ services Council provides.
  • There was interest in contributing to the design of projects like the Maryborough Outdoor Pool upgrade.
  • There was interest in the trees planted across the Shire including locations and types.
  • Footpath projects – both new and renewals - continue to be an area of interest.
  • The community is keen for the Council to advocate for ratepayers across a number of issues including road safety.

Our Councillors will now give consideration to the feedback before the final Budget goes to the Tuesday 22 June Council Meeting for adoption.

Inkerman Street Road Closure

Regional Roads Victoria has commenced works to replace the bridge over the Tuaggra Main Drain in Inkerman Street, Maryborough.

2022 Centralised Kindergarten Registration

Is your child/children eligible to attend three or four-year-old kindergarten in 2022?

The Central Goldfields Shire Centralised Kindergarten Program is now open for all seven kindergartens in the Shire.

The system allows families to lodge their registration forms, including their kindergarten preferences online making it a simpler, more convenient process rather than submitting forms to each kindergarten individually.
