Let’s chat, Carisbook
 
Our third Carisbrook Community Conversation event will be held on Wednesday 6 October from 6.30 to 8.30pm.
 
Hosted by Tullaroop Ward Councillor Anna De Villiers and Council’s Manager Community Engagement Kylie Long, the focus of conversation three will be Stage Four of the Carisbrook Levee project.
 
With Stage Three recently completed, Stage Four involves the construction of the Levee south of the Pyrenees Highway. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event will be held online via Zoom.

Draft Community Vision and Council Plan
 
Thank you to everyone who took the time to provide input into our Shaping Central Goldfields project over the past few months.
 
We have taken your feedback and developed the Draft Community Vision and Draft Council Plan.
 
We’d love you to take the time to review these draft strategic documents. They’ll guide the future of our Shire for the next four years and beyond so it’s important we have them right.
 
To discuss the draft documents, join us at one of our online feedback sessions:
• Wednesday 29 September, 6 to 7.30pm
• Thursday 30 September, 2 to 3.30pm
 
We’ll also host a Facebook Live on Tuesday 5 October from 12 to 1pm. To submit a question for the Facebook Live session, please email media@cgoldshire.vic.gov.au by 5pm, Monday 4 October.

Domestic Animal Management Plan
 
Council is inviting input into the development of the Domestic Animal Management Plan 2021 – 2025.
 
The Plan outlines how Council will create a harmonious relationship between pets, people, other animals and the environment.
 
Residents who participate in the online survey will go in the running to win a pet grooming voucher.

Central Goldfields Walking and Cycling Advisory Group
 
Local walking and cycling enthusiasts are invited to submit an expression of interest for Council’s new Walking and Cycling Advisory Group.
 
We are looking for six community representatives with walking and/or cycling experience to work with Council staff and government to provide advice and implement the recommendations of the Central Goldfields Shire Walking and Cycling Strategy 2017-2026.
 
Applications close at 5pm, Thursday 30 September.

Gillies Street road works

Road construction works are due to take place on Gillies Street (between Sutton Road and Layton Road) on Monday 27 September.
 
Where possible, traffic will continue throughout the works although some road closures are expected during the project.
 
For the safety of all road users and pedestrians please obey all traffic signage and the direction of traffic controllers.
 
These works will take approximately 10 to 12 weeks.

 

Calling all local artists
 
Submissions are now open for the 2021 Community Arts Exhibition.
 
Central Goldfields Shire and Avoca residents may enter in artwork of any media such as paintings, sketches, textiles, digital work, ceramics, sculptures, miniatures and woodwork.
 

 

Talbot hosts Minister for Regional Development

Minister for Regional Development Mary-Anne Thomas visited Talbot on Wednesday to announce funding to go towards future development of the township.
 
The Minister announced $630,000 to enable planning for a centralised sewerage system. This system is important as it will allow for more future housing options in
Talbot. This will be done in consultation with the community.
 
Council is contributing $60,000 to the project. While visiting Talbot, the minister also officially opened the township’s new outdoor exercise equipment in Pioneer Park.
 
The equipment includes a cardio bike, stretch station, body pulls and push up equipment, chest press, leg press and elliptical trainer.
 
The State Government contributed $150,000 to the project through its Healthy Heart of Victoria initiative. 

 

Council Meeting
 
The September Council Meeting will be held online due to COVID-19 restrictions on Tuesday 28 September at 6pm.

Due to restrictions, residents will not be able to attend the meeting.

Public holiday closure
 
Our Customer Service Centre at 22 Nolan Street, Maryborough will be closed today, Friday 24 September due to the Grand Final public holiday.
 
The Maryborough Regional Library, Goldfields Family Centre and Depot/Pound will also be closed.
 
Our after-hours service will operate as normal. Urgent after-hours issues that relate to Council infrastructure can be reported on 0419 005 577. After hours issues in regards to urgent animal control can be reported on 0407 508 448.
 
All locations will re-open on Monday 27 September. 

 

School holiday program
 
Our school holiday program is now in full swing. Events and activities include:
 
Central Goldfields Youth
 
Tuesday 28 September - 3pm
Learn to Garden workshop with Chris Pollock from Talbot Landcare. Held at the Mill House Community House & Garden (formerly GELC).
 
Each participant will get a gardening starter kit to take home.
 
Wednesday 29 September - 2pm
Join a local photographer and learn how to get a great image - whether you're shooting on your phone or a DSLR. This is the perfect opportunity to fine tune your entry for the Snapshot 2.0 youth photography competition!
 
This event may be held online or in person, depending on COVID restrictions.
 
Thursday 30 September - 9.30am
Possum Gully Fine Art Gallery drawing workshop. Depart Central Goldfields Shire Council car park 9.45am, return 12.30pm.
 
This drawing experience will be centered on the aspects of bush, garden and sculpture at Possum Gully Fine Art Gallery, Adelaide Lead.
 
Individuals can choose to use charcoal or oil pastels to create landscapes, garden or detailed close-up images of flowers, leaves and sculpture.
 
Some guidance will be provided by Trish Walsh artist and owner of the Gallery or you may choose to use your own approach to the art piece.
 
Lunch will be provided, participants asked to bring their own bottled water.

Friday 1 October - 4.30pm

Central Goldfields Art Gallery
 
Paper Mache Workshops with Judy and Tenar Learn how to make your own paper mache animal with local artists Judy Meldrum and Tenar Dwyer. Judy and Tenar will show children how it’s done and guide them through the process. Ages 6–16 welcome.

Maryborough Regional Library
Take a walk around your neighbourhood these school holidays and join in the Maryborough Regional Library’s scavenger hunt!
 
To join in, simply pick up an activity sheet from the Maryborough and Dunolly libraries or the post office in Carisbrook, Talbot and Bealiba and see how many items you can tick off.
 
Don’t forget to take lots of photos of your scavenger hunt and upload them to @MBLibVic on Facebook and Instagram!
