Have your Say - Economic Development Strategy and Tourism & Events Strategy

We’re inviting residents to provide feedback on our Draft Economic Development Strategy and Draft Tourism and Events Strategy.

Both strategies provide a clear vision and framework for general economic development and the visitor economy in our municipality over the next five years.

The strategies focus on existing strengths and local needs. As well as providing a platform for securing strategic investment and partnerships, the strategies will take a ‘bottom up’ economic development approach by identifying ways to support start-ups and small businesses to thrive.

Community feedback, provided to us as part of our community consultation on the project last year, helped inform both strategies. Now that we have finalised the draft strategies, we want you to tell us:

  • Should any of the action plan items be higher or lower priorities than indicated?
  • Has any significant area for action been omitted?
  • Do you support the overall direction of the strategies (either or both)?

Your feedback will assist us to finalise the final version of the Strategy that will then go Council for approval.

Both strategies are available to view here.

Feedback is required by Friday 6 March 2020 and is invited via:

Have your Say - Draft Waste Management Strategy

We’re inviting residents to provide feedback on our Draft Waste Management Strategy 2020-2030.

The Strategy provides a roadmap for the future direction of waste services and waste reduction in our municipality. It outlines the current waste management legislative and policy environment in Victoria, the current waste service models, infrastructure, and data.

It also provides an overview of the community feedback we received as part of our community consultation session and surveys that we conducted last year.

These concepts and ideas have been brought together as actions and outline how we will work with our community to achieve the waste management vision to: be a low waste community that has equitable and affordable waste services with minimal impact on the environment and public health.

Your feedback will assist us to finalise the final version of the Strategy that will then go Council for approval.

The Strategy is available to view here.

Feedback is required by Monday 9 March 2020 and is invited via:

Have your Say – Maryborough Flood Study

We’re inviting residents to contribute local knowledge and experience to inform a flood study for Maryborough township and surrounds.

The flood study is a partnership project between Council, North Central Catchment Management Authority and the Victorian State Emergency Service.

Community members who have an interest in the study, or who have knowledge of past flooding or drainage problems around Maryborough are encouraged to get involved via:

·       Drop-in community information session: Tuesday 3 March from 5 to 7pm at the Community Hub in Maryborough.

The session will include presentations from specialist water consultants, Water Modelling Solutions, who are undertaking the study in partnership with Council. Water Modelling Solutions will also have staff in attendance with whom you can discuss local flooding and drainage issues following the presentation.

·       Online survey: bit.ly/MaryboroughFS_SurveyA

The survey is anonymous, takes only 5 to 10 minutes to complete and will provide us with valuable flooding information.  In addition, the survey can be submitted as many times as required to capture data for multiple locations or properties.

Animal registrations due by 10 April

Pet owners are reminded that animal registration payments are due on Tuesday 10 April.

Animal registration is required under the Domestic Animals Act 1994 and all dogs and cats over three months of age must be registered with Council and micro chipped.

Registering a dog or cat greatly improved the chances of it being returned if it became lost.

Residents can pay their animal registration via:

  • BPay – online or by telephone
  • In person - Central Goldfields Shire Customer Service Centre,  22 Nolan Street, Maryborough
  • Mail – cheques can be mailed to PO Box 194, Maryborough, 3465

Burke Street upgrade

An upgrade to Burke Street Maryborough, between Inkerman and Kars streets, is expected to be complete early next week.

Works include footpath renewal, replacing all existing kerb and channel, formalising the existing school crossing, minor drainage works and road pavement reconstruction works.

The project is funded by Regional Roads Victoria ($426,000) and Council ($50,000).

Majorca Road stabilisation

We are currently conducting stabilisation works along Majorca Road, Maryborough.

The road will remain open with the works expected to be complete by the end of next week. Motorists are advised to obey all traffic signs. This project is funded by Council.

Community Satisfaction Survey

Each year, we participate in the Victorian Government’s state-wide Local Government Community Satisfaction Survey.

Residents and households may receive a telephone phone call from now until March from the independent market research agency, National Field Services asking a number of questions about different services Council provides.

The survey data provides us with a local community perspective on service delivery performance over the past year and useful insight into where we should focus efforts to make improvements to meet changing community expectations.

Details and individual responses are confidential. Only the overall results are shared with us.

Positions Vacant

We are currently recruiting for:

  • Cook - Goldfields Family Centre

We now want to share what we have heard so far and check in with you about your community priorities at a series of community workshops throughout February.

Workshops are open to everyone and are a chance for you to learn about all we have heard and to test out our draft actions. They are interactive with a chance to talk together, add ideas and set priorities.
