Shire-wide literacy strategy

Council has had conversations with 255 members of the community for their thoughts on literacy throughout the Shire, and what measures could be taken to improve literacy skills.

We want to tell you what we’ve heard and seek some feedback on what you think is important.

This information will form the basis of the Shire-wide literacy strategy and will tell us where to start, where to seek funding and what we can do together to implement the literacy strategy.

A series of posters will be displayed at the Maryborough Library, Dunolly Library and Talbot Library. These will be displayed for two weeks, from today until Friday 4 October.

This will then inform the strategy on what is important for the community.

For any queries please contact Maree Stephenson – Library Services Coordinator on or 5461 1950.

Library supporting Penguin Foundation

The Maryborough Regional Library is throwing its support behind the Penguin Foundation which collects knitted jumpers for fairy penguins on Phillip Island.

The Library is calling on knitters to knit little jumpers for the penguins, which help protect them from oil pollution.

If you would like to knit a jumper for fairy penguins, contact the Library on 5461 1950 or visit

Planning Scheme Review drop-in sessions

Council is undertaking a periodic review of the Central Goldfields Planning Scheme. The Planning Scheme affects everyone who lives and works in Central Goldfields as it sets out how and where people can develop and use land in the Shire. The review will identify ways to make the Planning Scheme more up to date, useable and effective.

A public drop-in session is being held to provide an opportunity for community members to get more information and discuss how to participate in the review process. Please feel welcome to attend at any time during the session.

Where: Maryborough Regional Library, 91 Nolan Street Maryborough

When: Wednesday 2 October, 4pm - 7pm
