Councillors sworn in and Mayor elected

Central Goldfields Shire’s Councillors for 2020-2024 were officially sworn in at a Council Meeting earlier this week (17/11).

Councillor Chris Meddows-Taylor was elected Mayor for the next 12 months.

A recording of the meeting is available on our Facebook page and www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/councilmeetings

Member for Mallee visit

Federal Member for Mallee Dr Anne Webster MP visited the Central Goldfields Shire this week (18/11) to meet with Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Chris Meddows-Taylor, Flynn Ward Councillor Liesbeth Long and Council staff.

As part of the visit, Dr Webster visited Wareek, Dunolly and Bealiba to officially launch the Your Community 2030 Community Plans and the improvement works about to get underway.

In 2019-2020 we had more than 1,035 conversations with our community as part of the Your Community 2030 project – funded as part of the Australian Government Building Better Regions Fund – which culminated in eight, ten year community plans for the townships of Maryborough, Bealiba, Carisbrook, Dunolly, Talbot, Majorca, Bet Bet and Timor.

Investment in our community hall facilities is a key theme of each of the plans, and with funding through the Australian Government Local Road & Community Infrastructure Program, a series of improvement works will be carried out in each of the eight townships.

Fire season 2020/21

All ratepayers would have received a letter recently reminding them of the importance of minimising the threat to life and property from fire.

If individuals take action to make their land “fire safe”, the whole community benefits.

Property inspections in towns across the Shire will commence this week, and Council’s Municipal Fire Prevention Officers will be paying particular attention to rural land that abuts townships.

To help prepare for the upcoming fire season we're offering free green waste disposal for residents at the Carisbrook, Talbot and Dunolly

transfer stations every weekend from now until Sunday 29 November 2020.

Learn more about how to effectively prepare your property here: www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare

For Transfer Station opening hours visit www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/transferstations
