On Display Indefinitely

Phillips Gardens improvements

Council has been undertaking beautification and safety works at Phillips Gardens!

Our Open Spaces Team has been busy modernising the display at the conservatory where all existing plants and soil have been removed and reused in other locations in Phillips Gardens.

New plants and features are being added to form a new permanent collection.

A new fence has also been installed along the main drain to ensure the safety for all community members.

Meals on Wheels donation

A big thank you to the Maryborough Commonwealth Bank branch which donated $500 to go towards Council’s Meals on Wheels program.

The funds will be used to go towards new eskies and hi-vis vests for volunteers.

Exhibition development fund

Central Goldfields Art Gallery was successful in the Exhibition Development Fund program, managed by the NETS Victoria Board, to engage with independent curator Georgia MacGuire to research and develop a new touring exhibition Ngdardang Girri Kalat Mimini.

This exhibition was established in 2016 as a collaborative network of Victorian Indigenous female artists, committed to promoting unique art practices with a particular focus on those regionally located.

This is the first collective exhibition of Ngdardang Girri Kalat Mimini and highlights the skills, talents and cultural knowledge of Indigenous female artists in regional Victoria.

The new exhibition will be open from Saturday 17 August.

Mental Health Royal Commission

Maryborough will host a day of public hearings this coming Monday as part of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s mental health system.

During the Commission’s community consultations, they visited more than 20 locations across the state and heard from more than 1,600 people.

They also heard about the challenges of isolation in places like the Central Goldfields which means people need to travel long distances to get help.

The Commissioners will also undertake a site visit at the Maryborough District Health Service prior to the hearing at the Community Hub on Monday 15 July, to discuss some of the issues affecting the local community.

Public hearings for the Commission are set to run from Tuesday 2 July until Friday 26 July and will be held at the Melbourne Town Hall.

If you or a family member has immediate concerns or require mental health assistance, contact beyondblue on 1300 224 636 or Lifeline on 13 11 14.

Helping our community groups

Central Goldfields Shire is home to a myriad of community groups, many of which utilise Council owned or managed buildings and recreational land.

It is important for community groups to have a clear understanding how to access and utilise resources available to them, to be aware of any costs involved, how maintenance issues can be reported, who the responsible contact person at Council is.

Council has great resources that can support your group and help you to become more sustainable and efficient.

This is why Council has recently developed a number of draft policies to document how Council supports community groups.

The aim of this policy suite is to provide a clearer, fairer and more transparent process for all community members.

Council is now seeking your feedback on the following draft policies:

  • Draft Community Support Policy
  • Draft Casual Hire Policy
  • Draft Property Occupancy Policy

We also have the following strategic documents out for consultation:

  • Waste Management Strategy
  • Economic Development and Tourism Strategy
  • Gordon Gardens Masterplan
