Improving work and study opportunities for young people
Earlier this week, 40 local businesses and young people came together in Maryborough for a workshop focused on improving the opportunities for young people to access work and study in the Central Goldfields.
Thank you to the Maryborough Education Centre, Highview College, Central Goldfield Shire Youth Council, local businesses and Committee for Maryborough for being involved.
Together the group came up with two immediate actions that the group will work towards in the coming months.
The workshop was run by the Australia National University, La Trobe University and Fraunhofer Institute (Germany) in partnership with Council.
During the past few weeks our Operations team have been busy with the following projects:
-
Urquhuart Street, Carisbrook footpath project due for completion this week – 120 metres of footpath is being constructed between McLachlan and McNeil Street and is being delivered as part of Council’s 2023-2023 Council Budget (pictured)
-
Re-sheeting program continues – Lees Road, Bet Bet; Mt View Road, Goldsborough; Cemetery Road, Bealiba – now complete. Tunstalls Road, Bealiba underway with Newitts Lane, Bealiba next.

Maryborough road and footpath upgrade
Works to reconstruct Primrose Street, between Spring Street and Golden Wattle Drive and the whole length of Porter Avenue have commenced.
The project also includes the replacement of the existing footpath – 300 metres along Primrose Street and 583 metres along Porter Avenue.
The $1.24 million upgrade is made possible thanks to the Federal Government’s Roads to Recovery program.
The project will be delivered by Doran Earthmoving, on behalf of Council and is expected to take 8 to 10 weeks to complete – weather depending.
Where, roads will stay open during construction, however, some road closures will be experienced during the works. For the safety of all road users and pedestrians please obey all traffic signage and the direction of traffic controllers.
Did you know we have 524 kilometres of sealed (bitumen roads) in our Shire?
Sealed roads typically have a 15-year life span so, every year we allocate funding to keep them maintained.
In the 2022/23 Council Budget, $820,000 was budgeted for our annual resealing program.
The works are now underway and will be carried out by Fulton Hogan and will take around two to three weeks to complete (weather dependent).
The list of roads to be re-sealed are determined from our Asset Management System, which prioritises reseals based on the condition data we have for all local roads.
Any property owners impacted by the works will be notified prior to the start of the works. Minor delays will be expected during the works.
