Tender to rebuild Octagonal Pool advertised

Council will use the $2 million in Victorian Government funding – announced in 2020 – to upgrade the octagonal pool at the heritage-listed Maryborough Outdoor Pool complex.

In developing the tender – to be advertised from today (10/02) Council has worked closely with Heritage Victoria to ensure the significance of the complex is maintained - with the Heritage Victoria permit already in place and ready for works to start.

As part of this Council worked closely with heritage conservators to research the best method to recover and preserve the existing tiles of the octagonal pool which involved researchers at Melbourne University to undertake specialised experiments with sections of the tiles.

The project scope includes an entirely new pool shell, recovery and re-application of as many of the original tiles as possible and repairs to the concourse. The funding will also see minor upgrades to the plant room and main entrance building – which is expected to be advertised as a separate tender in the coming months.

This work is stage one of works required at the site, with Council continuing its advocacy efforts to obtain the remaining funding for renewal of 50 m outdoor pool and allow for the site to reopen for public use.

Seeking Information on Flood Damage to Waterways

The flood event of 2022 has been devastating in many ways and to many people. As the recovery process commences, a dedicated Flood Recovery Program and team have been assembled by the North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) to start the process of addressing those impacts to the region’s waterways and associated infrastructure.

CMA is currently asking landholders within the flood zone to provide input into the assessment process. If you have noticed any major flood damage to waterways or associated infrastructure, you can report this to the CMA. This might include such things as serious erosion, major blockages, damage to riverside fencing, or extensive loss of vegetation.

To register damage please go to www.bit.ly/cmarepair or call the CMA on 5448 7124 by Wednesday 15 February.
