Tender advertised for next step of Carisbrook Levee project

The Carisbrook Levee project was designed by specialists Entura in response to major floods which occurred in 2010 and 2011.
The project is being delivered in four stages - one and two are complete, stage three is nearing completion and stage four is subject to Federal Government funding.
In response to the 10-year anniversary of the flood event, and a significant rain event late January, Council hosted a community information session for interested community members on Monday 1 March.
This provided an opportunity for residents hear from, and ask questions to, the Carisbrook Levee designer – Entura Specialist Dams Engineer Paul Southcott

Following the meeting, Council made the decision to continue to progress the Carisbrook Levee project.
The tender for the next part of stage three of the Carisbrook Levee project was advertised in The Maryborough District Advertiser and Council’s website on Friday, 12 March, 2021.
The tender, titled Pyrenees Highway, Carisbrook – Culvert construction, is for the installation of the drainage culverts under the Pyrenees Highway.
This part of the project will see the installation of twin cell box culverts - 1200mm high by 1200mm – across the Pyrenees Highway located to the west of Pleasant Street, Carisbrook.
The culverts will redirect the overland flows along the levee when the southern section of the levee is completed.
To allow for the installation of the culverts existing utility services will be relocated in the coming months.
Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Chris Meddows-Taylor said the release of the tender was another step towards ensuring the best solution for Carisbrook.
“Whilst we know there is some difference in opinion about some aspects of the levy design, it was beneficial to hear from Paul to better understand the design and the hydrology testing that has been done not only by Entura – but also independently by Water Technology.
“This information should provide assurance that the design is consistent with best practice.
“We acknowledge it’s been a long and difficult process for so many residents. Council remains committed to moving this project forward to support the Carisbrook community in managing flood mitigation.”
