New touch-free fountain installed in Princes Park

The Maryborough Energy Breakthrough has partnered with Central Highlands Water to install a new touch-free water fountain in Princes Park.

The state-of-the-art touchless water fountain is located at the Jubilee Oval clubrooms and will encourage visitors and participants to bring reusable bottles to the event, which aligns with both Energy Breakthrough and Central Highlands Water’s focus on sustainability and the environment.

Central Goldfields Shire Councillor and Energy Breakthrough Committee Chairperson Liesbeth Long said the new water fountain is the latest of many infrastructure projects for the Energy Breakthrough.

“This is just one of the many great initiatives as part of the $1.5 million grants awarded to Energy Breakthrough from Regional Development Victoria as part of the Crisis Committee of Cabinet Infrastructure Fund,” she said.

“Central Highlands Water has been a long-time partner of the Energy Breakthrough event and we’re pleased to see this partnership continue to go from strength to strength. This additional access point to safe water also increases the attraction to further use the Princes Park precinct for other events and community activations.”

Central Highlands Water Managing Director, Paul O’Donohue said, “The Maryborough Energy Breakthrough is a significant economic and tourism event for the region and providing public access to tap water is very important for the thousands of visitors participating.”

“This will be a welcomed asset for Princes Park and Central Highlands Water is pleased to be able to assist and support the community in this way”, Mr O’Donohue added.

The Choose Tap® initiative is a coalition of water organisations and councils across Australia, including Central Highlands Water. This is an environmental and community driven program, increasing public access to quality tap water.

The Energy Breakthrough event sees over 20,000 visitors to Maryborough and the region and will be held from Wednesday 17 – Sunday 21 November, 2021.
